Updated: Panthers receiver Steve Smith has vowed to play on Sunday against the 49ers. He also has vowed to practice on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, he’ll deliver on the first of the promises. Per a league source, Smith is expected to practice on a limited basis with a knee injury.
Smith hasn't practiced in over two weeks, so a lot is riding on his participation today in regards to this weekend's game. As long as Smith can go through practice the next couple of days there is no doubt that he will suit up for Sunday's game against the Niners. ANALYST: Matthew Beck
Roberto Osuna (back) is available out of the bullpen Monday.
Osuna was complaining about some lower back pain after coming on in relief Sunday, but says he will be available if needed. Osuna has been outstanding this year and could be the solution to the Blue Jays' closer issue. He owns a 2.02 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings and is in the top 30 of the majors in strikeout rate with a 43:10 K/BB ratio. Analysis: Zack Carpenter
Dodgers transfer LHP Paco Rodriguez to the 60-day disabled list.
This move allows the Dodgers to bring up Eric Surkamp for tonight's bullpen game. Rodriguez, who last pitched for the Dodgers on May 29, will be out at least 8-10 weeks until September after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in his left elbow. He pitched four scoreless innings in a recent rehab assignment but suffered a setback and will now be sidelined even longer than expected. He has a 2.61 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. Analysis: Zack Carpenter
