Fantasy Player Updates & News

Ray Rice (quad) is not participating in Tuesday's practice.

Update: A meeting with team doctors Monday revealed a strained left oblique muscle for right-hander Wily Peralta, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list. The injury is expected to keep the 26-year-old out four to six weeks.

In what has been a tumultuous season for the Brewers, this is just adding insult to injury. This injury will keep him out a minimum of four weeks and the team will be looking for a replacement for the right hander. Michael Blazek could be an option, but a Peralta replacement is going to be fantasy worthy by any means. Peralta was 1-5 with a 4.00 ERA and 1.43 WHIP before hitting the DL. Analysis: Colby Conway

Prince Fielder went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and three runs scored on Monday against the Indians.

Fielder was scorching hot during the team's weekend series with the Yankees and he continued it in the first game of this series with the Cleveland Indians. Fielder has three straight three-hit games, hitting two homers and driving in eight runs in that same span. He is showing no ill effects from the neck injury that took away his 2014 campaign and he should be started in all formats. Analysis: Colby Conway

Shawn Tolleson struck out one batter in a clean ninth inning to secure his fourth save of the year on Monday against the Indians.

Tolleson continues to impress since taking over the closing duties in Texas. He has been particularly good of late, saving four ball games in the past five days. In that same stretch he has an impressive 6:0 K/BB ratio and he should be added in deeper leagues. Analysis: Colby Conway

Phil Klein allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in just two innings on Monday against the Indians.

After earning his first major league win five days ago, Klein came out and laid an egg in this one. He only recorded six outs and was taken deep by Carlos Santana and Roberto Perez in his two innings of work. He isn't going to strike many guys out and he lacks any real fantasy ability that would be worthwhile to owners. He can be left in free agency for the time being. However, if there is a bright spot for Klein, it's that his next start will come on Saturday against the Red Sox, the team he beat for his first career win. Analysis: Colby Conway

Reds manager Bryan Price reiterated Monday that the club does not expect Johnny Cueto (elbow) to miss more than one start.

Cueto and his manager both agreed that Cueto could have pitched Sunday if necessary, but the team erred on the side of caution with its ace. It will be necessary to see how he does in his bullpen session later in the week, and whether he gets clearance from the training staff to face the Nationals this coming weekend. Analysis: Ivar G. Eric O'Flaherty (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Monday and is expected to head out on a rehab assignment this week.

He most likely will only need a few games at the minor league level to get ready to be activated. That puts him in line to rejoin the A's bullpen staff in early June. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Antonio Smith may sit out practice this week.

Smith is the subject of a child abuse investigation in Texas. The case has been dragging on for some time now, with the DA sifting through the report from the Fort Bend County Sheriff since February. Even if the case is ultimately dropped by the prosecutor, Smith could still face discipline from the league as part of its effort to improve its public image, as part of the personal conduct policy under the CBA between the players union and the league. Analysis: Ivar G. Reliever Enrique Burgos was dealing is dealing with soreness in his right shoulder. Manager Chip Hale said they're going to talk about a possible roster move.

Burgos is coming off a bad one inning stint on Sunday, where he yielded three runs (two earned) on a pair of hits. One of those safeties was three run homer by Anthony Rizzo. Of course, he did rack up three strikeouts in that appearance. It does sound as if the Diamondbacks will be looking to the minors for some bullpen assistance, possibly with Burgos heading to the DL. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Chad Gaudin had carpal tunnel release surgery and could be pitching in a month.

It is not as though the Dodgers have had a stable pitching staff to open the season, thus Gaudin could be a valuable swing man if he gets back to snuff sometime soon. Of course, he has not pitched in the majors since 2013 and would settle in as a bullpen arm should he make it onto the 25-man roster this season, at least to begin. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Avisail Garcia left Monday's game with a knee injury.

Garcia left after less than two innings of action on Monday. He was coming off a knee issue that held him out two games before playing again on Sunday, where he went 1-for-2 with a strikeout. A problem significant to force him from the game, occurring with the same body part that sidelined him last week is of concern, so stay tuned for an update on his situation. Analysis: Ivar G. Pedro Ciriaco will now play third base for the Braves on Monday.

Ciriaco will take over the third base position Monday night. He and Andreton Simmons will swap positions in the order, with Simmons moving up to the sixth place.  Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
