Fantasy Player Updates & News

Update: Carmelo Anthony has a sprained left ankle - he will not return.

Hawks F DeMarre Carroll (knee) will play in Game 3 Sunday.

The Hawks Need Carroll to play and be effective if they are to have any chance of climbing back into their series with the Cavs. With Kyle Korver out for the rest of the playoffs, Carroll and Kent Bazemore should see most of the wing minutes though Dennis Schroder will likely play more as well. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Addison Russell is not in the Cubs starting lineup on Sunday.

This is a routine day off for Russell, and Jonathan Herrera will play second base and bat ninth Sunday. His spot in the lineup limits his value, but Herrera is a good punt for DFS given his super-cheap price on most sites. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Yasmany Tomas is not in the Diamondbacks starting lineup on Sunday.

After eight consecutive starts at third base, Tomas will make way for Aaron Hill. Hill has a respectable .260/.312/.400 line this season and he is a decent fantasy play at home against Cubs starter Jason Hammel. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Manager Bryan Price says Jason Marquis will start for the Reds on Monday.

Marquis and the Reds will host Eddie Butler and the Rockies. Marquis has been terrible all season and that will almost certainly continue Monday. If you own any Rockies you definitely have to start them Monday. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Dillon Gee's luggage and baseball equipment is currently in Detroit. So he'll wait until Monday to throw his bullpen session.

Gee, who has been the subject of trade rumors this season, is going to make one more rehab start in Binghamton before returning to the Mets.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

Maicer Izturis suffered an injury in Saturday's rehab game and will undergo an MRI.

The injury is to Izturis' right-shoulder and happened as he dove for a ground ball and heard something "pop" while on rehab assignment with High-A Dunedin. He is awaiting results of an MRI.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

Jason Heyward is not in the Cardinals starting lineup on Sunday.

Heyward is being kept out of the lineup with a nagging hip issue. The Cardinals' outfielder is slashing just .238/.293/.377 in his first year with the club.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

Wily Peralta still has sore side and no longer "a sure thing" to pitch on Wednesday.

Peralta left his last start after just four innings with left side tightness. He will be re-evaluated before his scheduled start Wednesday.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

Collin Cowgill has been scratched from Sunday's lineup with lower back soreness.

Cowgill was unable to make it through batting practice without experiencing pain and was scratched as a result. It sounds like he re-aggravated his lower back issue. The 29-year-old has played in 34 games this season.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

J.J. Hardy is not in the Orioles starting lineup on Sunday.

Likely just a day of rest for Hardy, who has been on and off the DL this season and has played in just 15 games. He's hitting .182, but owns a .190 BABIP and a 98.3 percent contact rate on pitches in the zone. That batting average should start creeping back towards respectability.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

Avisail Garcia is in the White Sox starting lineup on Sunday.

After being scratched with a knee issue earlier this weekend, Garcia is good to go Sunday. Garcia has been excellent for the White Sox this season, as he's hitting .319 with four home runs and 18 RBI.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

Atlanta Falcons outside linebacker Brooks Reed suffered a "minor" groin injury, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports citing multiple sources, but the injury could keep Reed sidelined for the start of organized team activities next week.

Reed tweaked his groin during voluntary mini-camp. In March, Reed signed a 5 year deal with the Falcons, worth $22 million. He had 41 tackles, three sacks and an interception while starting every game for the Texans last season.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

Bud Norris is a candidate to start one game of Thursday's doubleheader.

Norris made another rehab start Wednesday and there's a good chance he starts in one of Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox. He has really struggled through six starts at the major league level, posting one win and a 9.88 ERA.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky

Tigers announce Buck Farmer will start Thursday against the Angels.

Farmer will take the rotation spot of injured starter Kyle Lobstein. In two 2014 starts, Farmer had a 11.57 ERA with a 10.61 K/9 and 4.82 BB/9.  Analysis: Kevin Luchansky
