Victor Cruz (concussion) did not practice again on Thursday.

Justin Upton was 1-for-5 with a solo home run on Sunday.

Justin Upton seems to be coming out of the two month slump from June and July. Upton hit his 24th home run in five at bats on Sunday but is now hitting .274 in August with six home runs and 16 RBI for San Diego. If he can finish strong in September, Upton will do wonders for his contract negotiations this winter as an impending free agent.  Analysis: Greg Jewett

Matt Kemp was 1-for-5 with a two run home run on Sunday.

Matt Kemp once again has improved his play in the second half. When Kemp hit his two run home run on Sunday, it marked the 19th straight game that he has reached base and was his fifth home run of August. This marks the third straight month that Kemp has hit five home runs. In August, Kemp is hitting .306 in 25 games with 14 runs and 24 RBI for San Diego.  Analysis: Greg Jewett

Derek Norris was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI on Sunday.

Derek Norris had two hits, scored a run and drove in one to set career highs on Sunday. Norris has set career highs in runs, home runs and tied for the most RBI in a season after his performance on Sunday. As a Padre, Norris is hitting .243 with 56 runs, 13 home runs and 55 RBI in 118 games this year.  Analysis: Greg Jewett

Yangervis Solarte was 1-for-6 with a solo home run on Sunday.

Yangervis Solarte has transitioned from a platoon player to a full time one in San Diego. On Sunday, Solarte had one hit in six at bats but made it count with his 11th home run of 2015. Solarte is hitting .260 with 48 runs and 52 RBI in 121 games for the Padres. His home run today was his first since August 21st when he hit his third home run in three consecutive games.  Analysis: Greg Jewett

James Shields allowed one earned run on six hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched on Sunday.

James Shields broke a four game losing streak on the road as he was 0-4 with a 5.63 ERA away from San Diego in his last eight road starts. On Sunday, Shields pitched seven innings and gave up one earned run, six hits, one walk with eight strikeouts. Shields lowered his ERA to 3.78 this year but his FIP is at 4.17 as he returns home to face the Dodgers in his next start. While Shields has struck out 184 in 171 1/3 innings pitched this year, but he has given up 25 home runs and 61 walks as well.  Analysis: Greg Jewett

Cameron Rupp was 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk on Sunday.

Cameron Rupp has been on a power surge for Philadelphia in August. Rupp was 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run which was his seventh of August. He only trails Kyle Schwarber at catcher for home runs this month and is tied for second with Brian McCann. Through 16 games in August, Rupp is hitting .327 this month with seven home runs, 17 RBI and his slugging is at .745 for Philadelphia. Daily gamers and deep league owners should have Rupp on their radar for the last month of the season.  Analysis: Greg Jewett

Cesar Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored and an RBI on Sunday.

Cesar Hernandez has filled in affably for Chase Utley at second base for the Phillies. In 114 games this year, Hernandez is hitting .265 with 51 runs, one home run, 30 RBI and 19 stolen bases. If you use Hernandez in daily games, be sure to pencil him in against right handed pitching as the switch hitter is hitting .314 versus righties as opposed to .241 versus southpaws.  Analysis: Greg Jewett

Odubel Herrera was 4-for-4 with a run on Sunday.

Odubel Herrera’s emergence in the second half was part of the reason the Phillies could trade Ben Revere to Toronto. Herrera was 4-for-4 on Sunday which set a career high of hits in one game for Herrera. With his average in 2015 at .295, Herrera has been even better in the second half of the year. Since the All Star Break, Herrera is hitting .348 in 38 games with 29 runs and five stolen bases for the Phillies. Herrera has gone from a Rule V pick to the starting center fielder going forward in Philadelphia. Analysis: Greg Jewett

Alec Asher allowed four earned runs on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings against the Padres on Sunday.

When Alex Asher took the mound on Sunday, he was part of a dubious record for the Phillies as he was the fifth starting pitcher to make his debut for Philadelphia. Asher was able to pitch 5 2/3 innings with three strikeouts but allowed four earned runs on eight hits and a walk. While it is unknown if Asher will make another start this week, he was 2-0 in three starts at Triple-A with a 0.90 ERA at Lehigh Valley.  Analysis: Greg Jewett

Anthony Denham (shoulder) will not return to Sunday's game.

Denham is well down the depth chart at tight end for the Texans. Whether he makes the roster or doesn't isn't all that important. Analysis: Brett Talley

Carlos Thompson will not return to Sunday's game after suffering a concussion.

Thompson is well down the depth chart of a front seven that is pretty solid. He's may not make the team and whether he does or doesn't won't have much of an impact. Analysis: Brett Talley
