According to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports the Mariners are still pursuing free agents Shin-Soo Choo, Carlos Beltran and Nelson Cruz, among others.

Evidently the Mariners are dumping out their bank accounts this offseason in hopes of finally being a competitive ball club in 2014. Choo would be a very nice get for Seattle and provide Robinson Cano somebody to be on base when he comes to the plate.ANALYST: Jeff Mans

Kelly Johnson (back) has started playing catch and taking dry swings.

Johnson began activities at some point last week, but his progression has yet to make substantial progress. Even though he's eligible to return from the DL, it will likely be another couple weeks before he returns. Analysis: Colby Conway

Erik Cordier opted out of his Giants contract, declared for free agency and then re-signed a new minor league deal to stay with the organization. He will report to Triple-A Sacramento.

The 29-year old right-hander refused his Triple-A assignment, therefore opting to test the waters. In nine minor league innings this season, Cordier struck out 13 batters, but he also walked seven in that span. Analysis: Colby Conway

Chargers have signed cornerback Lowell Rose.

Rose spent last season with the 49ers after being signed as undrafted free agent. He is a bigger corner who can transition to safety if the team has a more immediate need there. He will be irrelevant in IDP leagues this year. Analysis: Colby Conway

Kendall Marshall, who is recovering from knee surgery, did some on-court work in Milwaukee on Friday.

Marshall averaged just 14.9 minutes per game this season and was fantasy irrelevant this season. He started just three of the 28 games he appeared in, averaging just 4.2 points and 3.1 assists per game. He will be ready for the start of next season and continue his role as a backup guard. Analysis: Colby Conway

Mike Pelfrey will pitch Tuesday for the Twins, but they are still mulling pitching plans beyond that.

Pelfrey was supposed to pitch in tonight's game, but rain will push his start to tomorrow. He will face the same opponent, but the rest of the schedule for the staff is in shambles. Pelfrey Is 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA and he makes for a quality start in DFS, seeing as he pitched very well against the Red Sox in his last start. Analysis: Colby Conway

Will Smith hopes to have a resolution regarding the appeal of his eight-game suspension by Friday.

Smith appealed his suspension on Monday and expects to have a resolution by Friday. He will likely be unavailable for most of next week, causing the Brewers to be slightly shorthanded in their bullpen. He was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA before the suspension. Analysis: Colby Conway

Bulls will name Fred Hoiberg coach at 2 PM Tuesday.

Hoiberg has reportedly notified Iowa State players and staff that he will accept the Bulls' offer to coach the team. Hoiberg was considered the front-runner to take on the head coaching duties due to his ties to the Chicago front office, notably Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman will battle for the starting running back position, according to head coach Dan Quinn.

Freeman has the experience edge over the rookie Coleman, but this is looking like a time-share between the two RBs. Freeman has been showcasing his pass catching ability for the Atlanta coaches in practice, however, which should boost his value going forward. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Shane Ray has officially signed his rookie contract.

Ray was selected 23rd overall by Denver, the Broncos moving up in a trade with Detroit to grab the pass rusher. He made his practice debut on Monday as well, after sitting out practice until this point with a toe injury. Terms of his contract were not released. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Mets hope Travis d'Arnaud (hand) will be able to resume playing minor league games this week.

Get ready to move him off the DL if his wrist issue that set him back last week does not flare up again. He could be back behind the plate for the Mets by the start of next week if all goes well. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Patrick Corbin (Tommy John surgery) pitched in an extended Spring Training game Monday. He went 3 2/3 innings, giving up two hits while striking out 8 and walking one.

Impressive strikeout numbers for Corbin. He could make it back to the Diamondbacks by the end of June so long as his rehab continues to produce positive results and there are no setbacks in the coming weeks. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Eric Stults has passed through waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Double-A Tulsa.

Stults came over in the six-player trade that sent Jose Uribe to the Braves in May. He will serve as organizational depth for the Dodgers while pitching for Tulsa this season.  Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Angels designated outfielder Gary Brown for assignment Monday.

Brown was a waiver wire pick up by the Angels in April but he has failed to shine at Triple-A. He was hitting just .212 with 17 strikeouts in 27 games. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson

Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said that he was no timetable for choosing between Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer as his starting quarterback.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other, and neither all that desirable. The Houston QB situation is not a favorable one in terms of fantasy value, and that will push down the draft position of the other offensive players for the Texans come fantasy draft time this August and September. Analysis: Ivar G. Anderson
