FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Clayton Kershaw has won the National League Cy Young Award.

Cuban infielder Hector Olivera has reportedly taken physicals for a number of MLB teams, including the Dodgers.

Although Olivera has not yet been declared a free agent by Major League Baseball he is still receiving a lot of interest throughout the league. Considering the big paydays some other Cuban defectors has received of late, Olivera could start a bidding war once teams are free to sign him.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Chris Owings (shoulder) is progressing in his rehabilitation at a faster pace than originally expected following offseason surgery.

Owings is the Diamondbacks' long-term fix at the shortstop position and is expected to be a fixture in the team's spring lineup at some point in the middle of March. Although his offense may not have caught up to his glove just yet, he is still someone worth monitoring this spring as he may turn into a solid fantasy option at some point this season.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

The Buccaneers have decided to keep Vincent Jackson at his full salary for the 2015 season.

After much talk about getting Jackson to take a pay cut, the Buccaneers decided it would be in their best interest to keep their star wide receiver at his current salary. He will make $9.777 million in 2015 with a salary cap hit of $12 million for his team after posting three straight 1,000 yard seasons.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Derrick Rose remains optimistic that he will be able to return to the court at some point this season

Rose had successful surgery on Friday and is expected to return to the court in four to six weeks. If that is the case, he should be back just in time to get back up to speed for the Bulls playoff push, but that is if no setbacks were to occur. For now, fantasy owners should hold tight until he starts rehabbing following surgery.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Trey Burke scored 23 points (8-19 FGA, 2-2 FTA) going 5-for-10 from three-point range with three rebounds, six assists and one steal in Saturday's 82-75 win over the Bucks.

Burke has really taken a liking to his new role off the bench as he is now averaging 18.2 points and 2.2 three-pointers while shooting 47.4 percent from the floor over his last five games. Although he is still not a must-start in all fantasy formats, those in deep leagues will want to give him a look especially for his three-point shooting.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Gordon Hayward scored 14 points (4-18 FGA, 5-6 FTA) going 1-for-5 from three-point range with two rebounds, four assists and one steal in Saturday's 82-75 win over the Bucks.

Hawyard struggled from the floor on Saturday night as he managed to shooting just 22.2 percent but still helped the Jazz victory. As long as he continues to fill the stat sheet on a nightly basis Hayward remains a must-start in all fantasy formats.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Derrick Favors scored 16 points (7-11 FGA, 2-2 FTA) with 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocks in Saturday's 82-75 win over the Bucks.

Favors has now posted double-doubles in three of his last four games as he continues to have a breakout season. He is averaging 17.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 2.0 steals over his last five games which makes him one of the better big men to own moving forward.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Michael Carter-Williams scored 16 points (6-10 FGA, 4-4 FTA) with five rebounds three assists and four steals in Saturday's 82-75 loss to the Jazz.

Carter-Williams has slowly adjusted to his new role with the Bucks as he posted his highest point total since leaving the 76ers. As long as he continues to receive quality minutes on a nightly basis there is no reason to think that his production will slip now that he has switched locations.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Khris Middleton scored 18 points (8-16 FGA) goign 2-for-4 from three-point range with six rebounds, three assists and two steal in Saturday's 82-75 loss to the Jazz.

Middleton continues to get the job done for both the Bucks and his fantasy owners of late as he is now averaging 16.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.0 steals over his last five games. Barring a significant decrease in production Middleton should remain a staple in the Bucks starting lineup the rest of the way which will only lead to quality fantasy production.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Marcus Morris scored 19 points (7-14 FGA, 2-2 FTA) going 3-for-4 from three-point range with seven rebounds, one steal and one block in Saturday's 101-74 loss to the Spurs.

Morris has now scored in double figures in three straight games as he continues to have a solid stretch off the bench for the Suns. However, he is averaging only 10.2 points and 4.0 rebounds through 60 games, which is certainly not enough to warrant fantasy consideration at this point in the season.  Analysis: Matthew Beck

Eric Bledsoe scored 12 points (3-9 FGA, 2-3 FTA) with six rebounds in Saturday's 101-74 loss to the Spurs.

After falling just one assist shy of posting a triple-double on Thursday, Bledsoe failed to match his production against the Spurs as he managed to score just 12 points and not register a single assist. Despite a poor performance, Bledsoe remains a must-start every time he is on the court while contributing across the board on a nightly basis.  Analysis: Matthew Beck
