Carmelo Anthony is under contract with the Knicks for next season at over $23 million, but he has an early termination option in his deal that would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he so chooses.
That leaves the door open for plenty of speculation (and consternation) from local and national media alike, but for a variety of reasons, it’s extremely unlikely that Anthony would choose to leave New York — either during this summer, or in the one that follows.
He’s been quoted as saying a lot of different things when asked about his upcoming decision, including that he’d like to experience free agency and that he’d be willing to recruit other stars to play alongside him with the Knicks.
The Dolphins will sign Robert Thomas off the Patriots practice squad.
Thomas was just recently signed to the Patriots practice squad about two weeks ago. Since coming out of Arkansas in 2014 he has seen time with three, now four, organizations in Washington, Seattle, the aforementioned Patriots, and now Miami. The Dolphins are struggling this year and this could be a move to simply stockpile bodies to scout but in any case he won't have a meaningful effect on the defense. Analysis: Matt Selz
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes Tony Romo can be the Cowboys starter for at least 4 more years.
This is far from the first time that Jerry Jones has spoken for one of his players and it surely won't be the last. Romo is 35 now and has a history of injuries including the two breaks of the same clavicle this season. QB's can play until 40, which is what Romo would be in four to five years but generally they don't have the missed games due to injuries that Jones' boy does. In the end all that matter is what Romo deems to be the right time to call it a career, but in the meantime Jones and his staff better find a replacement. Analysis: Matt Selz
Tyson Chandler (hamstring) is doubtful to play Tuesday.
Chandler continues to be hampered by this hamstring injury and has now missed two of the last three games. And that third game, he only played four minutes and had to leave due to possibly re-aggravating the injury. Sund coach Jeff Hornacek already said that he didn't think Chandler would play, so expect that doubtful tag to turn to an out. Analysis: Howard Bender
