FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said there is "not a question" Ron Washington will return as team's manager next season.

Taj Gibson (left ankle) will not return to Friday's game.

Gibson rolled his ankle and will be taken for further evaluation; he'll likely require an x-ray to determine the severity of the injury. While he is out, Nikola Mirotic will see more time, especially with Gasol currently out due to an illness. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Taj Gibson rolled his left ankle and is in pain. He's headed back to the locker room.

Gibson is making it back from an illness which cost him a game, but bad luck will strike again, as he turned his ankle and limped to the locker room. He may not be back for this game, but the Bulls should give us a more definite update soon.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Carl Landry will start in the frontcourt in place of the injured DeMarcus Cousins.

Due to Cousins being out with an ankle injury, Landry will get to start the game on Friday. He could see more time than usual, but Cousins' playing time will be replaced by a combination of players, not just Landry.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Kyle Lowry is back in the game. No word on what caused his brief locker room visit.

Although he went with several training staff personnel, he doesn't appear to have suffered any significant injury. The brief absent may be more performance related than anything else, as he has been dreadful shooting on Friday. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Iman Shumpert starts the second half in place of James Jones.

Neither have done a whole lot in this game, but Shumpert will get the start in the second half, as the coaches are frustrated with James' performance in Friday's game. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Nationals have signed LHP Rich Hill to a minor league deal with invitation to big league camp.

Hill is a lefty who pitched just 5.1 innings last season and threw 38.2 innings of 6.28 ERA-ball in 2013. He's not going to be used in any high leverage situations, but could eat some innings for the Nats in games that aren't so close. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Travis Witherspoon has signed a deal with the Dodgers.

The 25-year old is actually an interesting pick up, as he hit 15 home runs and stole 25 bases, while hitting .252 in High-A last season (407 PA). He is obviously far away, worryingly so for a 25-year old, but due to the clogged Dodgers OF, he wouldn't have a chance to compete for a significant role with the major league for a couple years anyway. He could become a factor in the future, but for now he is just another name with flashy, but raw, tools. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Tom Compton has re-signed with the Redskins.

Compton started nine games last season after doing very little in 2012 and 2013. The 6th rounder in 2012 could fight for a starting job in 2015, but is more likely to have a back up role, though he could fill in for injured starters during the season, like he did in 2014. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Kyle Lowery just headed to the locker room with the doctors and some of the training staff.

Lowry has gotten off to a horrible start and now will head to the locker room with possibly and unknown injury. The Raptors should update us on his condition soon. Analysis: Ben Diamond

John Danks has only thrown fastballs, changeups and a few cutters in his early bullpen sessions and live batting practices but said that everything feels good.

Danks will start the year slowly, as usual, as the White Sox make sure that the 29-year old's shoulder doesn't fall off. His early bullpens with just different types of fastballs has gone well thus far, and Danks will start to work in some off speed pitches soon. Analysis: Ben Diamond

CC Sabathia (knee) will wear a knee brace this season.

Sabathia's knee may be under more pressure than any other body part in Yankee camp, quite literally, as holding up 305 pounds of CC is a tall task to ask for a knee coming off of a serious surgery. The brace should help a bit, and Sabathia has said that he felt good in a recent bullpen, in which he wore the knee brace. The 35 year old is a high-risk/mid-reward fantasy pick, and if that proposition doesn't sound appealing, that's because it isn't. He's better left with another owner or on the waiver wire, but if he gets off to a hot start, he could be a solid SP4/5 for fantasy owners. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Taj Gibson will start for the Bulls on Friday.

Gibson did not play on Monday due to an illness but played 28 minutes on Wednesday and will start on Friday. He should be good to go and play enough minutes to be productive. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Pelicans' Tyreke Evans has sore left foot but will start against the Heat Friday.

Evans may not have the luxury of playing his usual 34.6 minutes per game, but he should be able to play 30 or so minutes and have a productive game. He could be slightly slowed by the sore left foot but he should be started in just about all fantasy leagues. Analysis: Ben Diamond
