Updated: Dr.James Andrews says there's not much that can be done to prevent Matt Harvey's injury. Says if it is going to happen, it will.

It's hard to imagine that Matt Harvey will not eventually succumb to having Tommy John surgery, but as of now the team is going to go the "rest" route. If indeed Tommy John surgery is required the expected timetable for recovery is 11 months.

Harvey's done for 2013 and the Mets are just putting on a happy face here. Rest and strengthening rarely allows a hurler to pitch a slightly torn UCL. It could happen, but the odds are against it. For more on Harvey's injury give Ray Flowers' Blog a read - http://blogs.rotoinfo.com/flowers .
