Mike Minor will get extra rest and will make his next start at home in the series opener against the Indians Tuesday.
Minor has been outstanding this season, having taken another step forward after a solid season last year. Minor is 12-5 with 3.06 ERA/3.14 FIP, has lowered his HR/FB% by about four percent from last year down to 7.9% and increased his K:BB rate from 2.59 last year to an impressive 4.03 this season.ANALYST: Michael Pichan
Paul Maholm will step in for a start to allow Minor to rest for a few extra days. Minor has seen his ERA rise from 2.76 to 3.06 as he's allowed eight runs over his last two starts - covering 8.2 innings, so it's a nice time to get him a breather even though he's still about 20 innings short of the 179.1 he tossed last season. Phillies recalled Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies seem ready to commit to Asche as their new starting left fielder which certainly gums up the outfield configuration for veterans like Ben Revere, Grady Sizemore and Jeff Francoeur. It also displaces Darin Ruf. While they may be happy with the defensive work he did down in the minors, Asche's bat never really heated up, so the team is still going to have some serious offensive woes. This plan may have looked good on paper, but it should be re-visited in a couple of weeks to see how things are panning out. Analysis: Howard Bender
