CC Sabathia(10-10) became just the fourth pitcher in Major League Baseball since 1900 to win at least 10 games in each of first 13 seasons after he and the Yankees got the victory on Tuesday over the Angels 14-7. Sabathia allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits, six walks, and seven strikeouts over six innings.
Blue Jays signed LHP J.A. Happ to a three-year deal.
On the surface, this doesn't look like a good deal for the Blue Jays. While they're desperately in need of a starter, and Happ fits the bill as...well, a starter, this is an overpay. $12 million a year for a 33-year old pitcher who had a 3.61 ERA last year, and last had a qualified season with an ERA under 4.00 in 2007, doesn't seem like the smartest of investments. Happ does have upside, in fact he had a 1.85 ERA and 2.19 FIP (63.1 innings) in Toronto last year in Pittsburgh last year, after being traded to the team from the Mariners, but a 4.64 ERA and 4.12 FIP in 108.2 prior innings with Seattle is less than encouraging. This deal could turn out well, but it is much more likely that it is a bust for the Blue Jays. Analysis: Ben Diamond
