The one bright spot at receiver so far at training camp for the Patriots has been Danny Amendola, who is clearly the most polished receiver on the field. If he can play 16 games like Welker always did, there’s little reason to think he can’t top 100 catches this season. “He’s a very good receiver,” coach Bill Belichick told Sirius XM in a rare moment of public praise. “He can play outside, play inside. He can run after the catch, has returned kicks. Has good ball skills. Good concentration. Tough kid. We’re excited to have him and we’ll see how it all fits together. I know the quarterbacks are gaining a lot of confidence in his route-running and catching ability.”

The main question with Danny Amendola is can he stay on the field. There is no question about his ability. The question is in his durability. Amendola is a top 15 wide receiver if he can stay healthy. Since there is no way to predict that, gamble and pick up early. He does have Tom Brady tossing him the ball.

Amendola is a much more proven producer than Welker was when he joined Brady in New England, and it's more a question as to whether or not he can stay healthy, as opposed to whether or not he will be productive. If Amendola remains healthy for 16 games I don't see any reason to believe he won't put up Welker-esque numbers.
