FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Carlos Santana is not in the Indians' starting lineup game 1 Friday.

Tyler Flowers is out the White Sox lineup Sunday with the flu.

At least it is the flu and not a serious injury. Geovany Soto is getting the start in Flowers' place and will eighth in the order. Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Yasmani Grandal is not in the Dodgers starting lineup on Sunday.

Grandal had great career stats vs Chase Anderson. Instead, A.J. Ellis will get the start at catcher for the Dodgers on Sunday. Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Josh Hamilton is likely to be assigned to Triple A Round Rock later this week to begin a rehab assignment.

Hamilton is getting closer to returning to the big level. Now is the time to acquire him in your fantasy league because he could acquired for practically nothing, but could return a lot of fantasy value.  Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Tom Wilhelmsen threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Sunday.

Wilhelmsen is currently on the 15-day DL with a minor elbow injury. He should return within the next couple of weeks, but that doesn't mean he should be stashed in fantasy leagues.  Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Falcons have waived TE Kyle Miller.

It is strange for the NFL teams to make roster moves right after the NFL draft, but clearly they drafted someone they like more than Miller.  Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Charlie Morton (hip) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, then begin a rehab stint soon after.

Good for Charlie Morton, who is recovering from hip surgery. There isn't an exact timetable for his return, but he still seems to be at least a month or two away from returning to the big league roster.  Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Matt Moore says he "felt really good" throwing to hitters Sunday and was "very happy" with his velocity around 89-92.

That is great news as Moore continues to rehab from Tommy John surgery. However, he still has a long way to go and is unlikely to make a solid fantasy contribution this season. Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Billy Butler is not in the Athletics starting lineup on Sunday.

The A's wanted to get some left handed hitters in the batter order, so Ike Davis will start at first base. Mark Canha is listed as the designated hitter. Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Wesley Wright slated to pitch in extended spring game May 19.

It seems like everyday there is a random update about Wesley Wright, who is currently rehabbing a shoulder injury. The Orioles have the backend of their bullpen locked up, so Wright won't have that much fantasy value when he finally returns to the big leagues.  Analysis: Mark Kaplan

Chad Smith has been recalled from Triple-A Nashville.

The A's are making minor tweaks to their bullpen. They sent Ryan Cook down to Triple-A in order to make room for Smith.  Analysis: Mark Kaplan
