Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon is drawing trade interest from the Red Sox, Tigers and Cardinals, according to the Boston Globe.
Philles general manger Ruben Amaro Jr. said he's not planning to blow up the team, but admitted Papelbon would bring in some nice pieces to help the team rebuild. Papelbon has a 1.46 ERA in 24 2/3 innings this year. He is owed $26 million through 2015.
While the Phillies could be hesitant to deal an arm like Cliff Lee, they could trade Papelbon without blowing up their team. Since closers are luxuries for non-contending teams, the right-hander could become available this summer.
