Manager Don Mattingly said on a potential closer switch of Kenley Jansen and Brandon League, “I’m still thinking about it.”

Why the Dodgers gave League a three year contract for more than $20 million, only they know. League is better served as a setup man, generating grounders with his power fastball. Kenley Jansen is a more talented hurler and the rightful heir to 9th inning work with the Dodgers. In the words of Agent Smith from The Matrix, Jansen leading the Dodgers in saves in 2013 has "...the sound of inevitability."

So far this season League has 7 strikeouts and 4 walks in 13 innings while, Kenley Jansen has 21 strikeouts and 5 walks in 17 innings. League has proven his skill set is best suited in a setup role. rnFantasy owners of League should handcuff Jansen if still available. The move to Jansen may be just a matter of time.

This move is inevitable, really. When you look ar League's numbers over the last couple of months, going back to 2012 even, his inconsistency is enough to make you realize that this guy just cannot be the full-time close on a professional baseball team. The strikeouts just aren't there this year, which really magnifies the impact of the walks. Jansen, on the other hand, has filthy peripheral skills, and would likely excel in the closer role. If he gets the chance, he's a good bet to stick in the ninth.
