After scrapping the idea of shifting Curtis Granderson to left field when he fractured his right forearm in February, the move is back on the table. Joe Girardi didn’t guarantee Granderson would return to his former position when he recovers from his injury. “We’ll decide that as time goes on,” Girardi said yesterday. Brett Gardner has performed well in center in Granderson’s absence and now Granderson is taking fly balls at all three outfield spots during his rehab stint in Tampa. “We might toy around with some other things,” Girardi said. “Left, right, other things. He’s getting reps everywhere right now.”

The move to left could help Curtis in the long run, as he won't have to cover as much ground in center, and he can use his speed more on the bases. It won't affect his fantasy value very much, so if you've been keeping him stashed on your DL spot, the time is drawing near for his return.

For most leagues, the switch won't mean much as standard leagues have the usual outfield spot. The thing that is important is Granderson's rehab is continuing well and he's going to help your fantasy team if you got him at a discount.

Since 99.9% of fantasy baseball league formats doen't count defense as a scoring option, this is irrelevant. Some leagues however do specify which outfield position a player gets notched into, so in those cases, you'll want to make sure that Curtis Granderson still fits your jigsaw puzzle. Other than that, consider him a #2-3 OF option with the upside of a #1 outfielder if he can hit over .270 this season.
