Angels have recalled third basemen Kaleb Cowart from Triple-A Salt Lake City.

Cowart was hitting .303 with 24 runs, two home runs, 27 RBI and three stolen bases over 39 games for Triple-A Salt Lake this season which likely earned him his promotion. He appeared in 34 games last season for the Angels but struggling, hitting just .174 with eight runs, one home run, four RBI and one stolen base.

Angels have designated LHP Lucas Luetge for assignment.

Luetge was having a solid season for Triple-A Salt Lake, going 0-1 with a 2.33 ERA over 15 games out of the bullpen and has 111 games of major league experience so it seems unlikely that this lefty reliever will be on the market for long.

Royals traded OF Jose Martinez to the Cardinals for cash considerations.

The 27 year old outfielder has yet to make his major league debut but has been in the minors for nearly 10 years. At Triple-A Omaha this season Martinez was hitting .298 with 18 runs, three home runs, 18 RBI and two stolen bases.

Twins purchased the contract of LHP Buddy Boshers from Triple-A Rochester.

Boshers appeared in 25 games for the Angels back in 2013, going 0-0 with a 4.70 ERA over 15.1 innings. At the minor league level this season he is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA over 15 games out of the bullpen for Triple-A Rochester.

Mets are optimistic that Wilmer Flores can come off the disabled list when first eligible on Friday.

Flores is dealing with a hamstring injury that has him on the disabled list but while he is likely going to return on Friday it will be as the Mets utility man still which limits his fantasy value.

Travis d'Arnaud threw with no issue on Wednesday and will begin more rigorous baseball activity on Thursday,

d'Arnaud had tried to throw recently but still felt discomfort in his shoulder so this is certainly a great sign for those owners waiting on his return. While he will be ramping up his baseball activities on Thursday there is still no timeline for his return.

Matt Carpenter is not in the Cardinals starting lineup on Wednesday.

The Cardinals are going with Ruben Tejada at third base and Kolten Wong playing second base and hitting leadoff against the Cubs on Wednesday. The lack of Carpenter in the lineup is even better news for Cubs starter Jake Arrieta whose day likely just got a bit easier although Carpenter was 0-for-16 in his career against him.
