Hogan will serve as the No. 2 quarterback Sunday against Pittsburgh, Mary Kat Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
Hogan spent most of the offseason program and training camp as the No. 4 quarterback, but the Browns released Brock Osweiler last week and are now demoting Cody Kessler to the No. 3 spot. Hogan replaced an injured Kessler in Week 7 last season and showed off his athleticism with 104 rushing yards, but he produced only 100 yards and two interceptions on 24 pass attempts. DeShone Kizer won't be on the hot seat anytime soon. Sep 08 3:52 pm (EST)
- Hogan completed 13 of 18 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday's preseason finale against the Bears.
- Browns general manager Sashi Brown suggested Hogan will be part of the team's quarterback competition, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. "I think it's going to be an open competition," said Brown. "[Head coach] Hue [Jackson] and [quarterbacks coach] David [Lee] will decide ultimately who our starter will be, but we're excited about all three of those guys, and DeShone [Kizer] coming into that room to give us a fourth opportunity for a guy who may become our starter. But I think the spring and certainly training camp will help us iron that out."
- Kevin Hogan will be the backup to Cody Kessler in Week 6. All Kevin Hogan News
