Steve Smith didn’t want to discuss his meeting with Panthers GM Dave Gettleman. When asked about the likelihood of returning to the Panthers, Smith said he is still a member of the Panthers but didn’t say much more.

Smith has lost a step, isn't a big guy, and his production dipped to 64 receptions and 745 yards last season. He's still the best option the Panthers have at the receiver position, so while they may be asking him to restructure his contract, it would be shocking if they would just release him. Smith is nothing more than a WR3 option for 2014.

As expected, Panthers WR Steve Smith is active Sunday.

Smith gave himself an 89-percent chance earlier in the week, no doubt a bit of "clever" gamesmanship from the veteran chatterbox. The 49ers ranked 11th in the league against No. 1 wideouts, allowing an average of 75.2 yards per game to them, but with Carlos Rodgers inactive, things could change a bit. Perrish Cox will fill in for Rodgers and the 49ers could work out of the nickel-package mostly, just like last week, so Smith should still see a lot of defensive attention.

Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has claimed through Instagram that he will play in the Sunday playoff game against San Francisco. "Damn right I'm playing wouldn't miss this for the world," he wrote per the Charlotte Observer. Smith is listed as questionable with a knee injury. The team has yet to confirm his availability.

This needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Smith loves to banter with the press, but even without the team giving him the OK, I would expect him to be out there for the matchup against the 49ers. Keep you eye on the injury report today or tomorrow morning if you plan on using him in your daily lineup.

Steve Smith is walking to practice in full pads and helmet.

If I had to bet I would say that Smith will play on Sunday against the 49ers. Though that is far from a sure thing after suffering a setback yesterday. His official status won't be known until later today at the earliest.

Steve Smith says today's practice didn't go as well as he hoped. He downgraded himself from 71 percent to 57 percent.

Good grief! The Panthers are probably better off without him because all Steve Smith does these days is make everything about him and not the team.

Updated: Panthers receiver Steve Smith has vowed to play on Sunday against the 49ers.  He also has vowed to practice on Wednesday. On Wednesday, he’ll deliver on the first of the promises.  Per a league source, Smith is expected to practice on a limited basis with a knee injury.

Smith hasn't practiced in over two weeks, so a lot is riding on his participation today in regards to this weekend's game. As long as Smith can go through practice the next couple of days there is no doubt that he will suit up for Sunday's game against the Niners.

Steve Smith (knee) says he will be ok for Sunday's game vs. the 49ers.

Of course he will because the "PCL sprain" he suffered in Week 16 was really an aggravation of his broken finger. Smith will need to come up big for the Panthers if they expect to get to Super Bowl 48.
