Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel has support from veteran Browns receiver Nate Burleson, who said, "I’ll just say this, Johnny’s still the man." Burleson also noted that he is pleased with head coach Mike Pettine’s decision to start QB Brian Hoyer.

Maybe Burleson should focus on staying healthy for once in his career rather than spend his time yapping to the media like some brown-nosing, hapless suck-up. He knows that the club will want to move towards Manziel at some point, but early in the season it will be all Hoyer. That's the way it is and that's the way it should be. Manziel should watch and learn for his first year, as much as he possibly can. That's how he's going to get into games -- by keeping his mouth shut and his eyes open. His time will come, but not yet. Let's get over this already, people. And Burleson just needs to shut his yap.

Johnny Manziel was fined $12,000 for his middle finger at the Redskins sideline.

Welcome to the NFL, kid. Stop being an idiot.

Johnny Manziel still might take some snaps in Week One against the Steelers. Browns coach Mike Pettine told Ross Tucker on SiriusXM NFL Radio that a Manziel package is on the table. We could potentially look at a two-quarterback system down the road, Pettine said.

Oh jeez. Here we go. A day ago there was no specific package set up for Manziel and now, likely because or moronic public backlash from idiots who don't understand the difficulty in becoming a legit NFL quarterback, Pettine is back-pedaling and talking about giving Manziel early work. That couldn't be a worse plan. Brian Hoyer is perfectly capable of captaining this ship and Pettine needs to sac-up and stand by his decision. Manziel is not ready and everyone knows it. Pettine is making a major mistake here as he gets his coaching feet wet.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel will not have a package of plays created for him to run off the bench, according to head coach Mike Pettine. Manziel has been slow to adjust to taking snaps under center and the new playbook.

So Manziel is being treated as a regular, ol' back-up, huh? How novel. As Pettine stated, it's not like Manziel did anything special to distinguish himself in the offense, so why would they create special plays for them? In fact, it's absurd to even think that they should have even considered it.

The key factor in determining the opening day starter for the Cleveland Browns was not the Johnny Manziel versus Brian Hoyer matchup but rather Johnny Manziel versus the offensive playbook according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Makes complete sense, doesn't it? You can forget the QB comparisons and ignore the obscene gestures. If he's not ready, he's not ready. There's nothing wrong with that and it's not a slight on Manziel. Things will eventually come together for him, but just not right now.

Browns coach Mike Pettine had planned to announce his Week 1 starting quarterback Tuesday, following Monday night's preseason game. But with Brian Hoyer and rookie Johnny Manziel both struggling, Pettine said he has not made a decision.

The fact that both players are struggling should mean that the job should simply default to Hoyer as the more experienced quarterback. It's the right move for the Browns and everyone knows it. Aside from the on-field struggles, Pettine can also now cite maturity as an issue to keep the youngster on the bench. In fact, there are so many reasons why Manziel shouldn't be starting in Week 1 that there's simply not enough room to write it all here on the web site. It would seriously make him the worst coach ever.

Johnny Manziel could be fined for an obscene gesture he made toward the Washington Redskins’ bench in the preseason game Monday.

Total stupid rookie move. What are you going to do? If maturity is going to be an issue with Manziel, then it's going to hinder his development. Hopefully coach Mike Pettine gets this under control soon.

Johnny Manziel completed 7-of-16 passes for 65 yards and one touchdown in Cleveland's second preseason game against the Redskins on Monday night.

Manziel's ceiling is pretty high thanks to his rushing potential, but given his antics in Monday night's game it is hard to imagine he will start Week 1. He probably isn't worth a roster spot in 10 or 12-team leagues.

Johnny Manziel told reporters Saturday that he doesn't think he's ready to face the Steelers in the season opener right now, but could be by September 7th.

The kid has confidence, and also a good sense of when to reign it in so as not to appear tooooo cocky. Manziel is the future QB in Cleveland, most likely this season, no matter how much the team tries to soft shoe it around the issue. The issue for fantasy drafters is what is there for him to use to mount an offense, or any other Brown QB for that matter?

Coach Mike Pettine hasn’t closed the book on the competition that has captivated Cleveland and the NFL, despite naming Brian Hoyer the starter for Monday in Washington. "All of our options are still on the table," Pettine said Friday regarding a Week 1 starter.

Captivated? Come on. That has to be a beat writer word there. While the novelty of Johnny Manziel is still there to a certain extent, the knowledgeable football fan and savvy fantasy owner know a bunch of lip service is what's coming out of Cleveland right now. With such limited complementary personnel, the Browns have no intention of throwing Johnny Football to the wolves. At least not in the first few weeks of the season. Maybe there's a quarterback change later on down the road, but only if Hoyer gets hurt or plays so poorly that a change is immediately warranted. Then, of course, there's Rex Grossman now, so that further complicates the situation.
