Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan isn't giving up on Johnny Manziel after a rough outing in his first career start last week. "I feel the same about Johnny as I always have," Shanahan said. "Johnny is a playmaker."

It's obviously way too early for anyone to give up on Manziel and anyone who thought Shanahan was writing him off after one lousy start obviously doesn't understand the game. Just because he was thrown into a bad situation and couldn't turn it around doesn't make him a bad quarterback. He just has a ton to learn which is all anyone has really said about him this season. If the Browns give Manziel a legitimate shot to win the starting job next year and they have a solid supporting cast around him, he could turn out to be a solid fantasy guy in 2015.

Johnny Manziel completed 10-of-18 passes for 80 yards and two interceptions during the Browns' 30-0 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday.

This was about as awful as things could have gone for Johnny Manziel in his first start. He looked nervous and overmatched the entire day, but in his defense, some of that could have been nerves. The Browns likely sealed their playoff fate on Sunday, so it's likely that Manziel will start the final two games of the regular season. While we should expect a better performance next week against Carolina, Manziel should absolutely not be used during the championship game of most fantasy football leagues.

Johnny Manziel has been informed he is starting this week. Reports Jay Glazer, an NFL insider.

The day that everyone has been waiting for, Johnny Football will get the start in Week 15. The Browns were all but eliminated from playoff contention after their loss in Week 14. This is the perfect time for Coach Mike Pettine to see what he has in the Heisman Trophy winner. A piece of advice, keep your TV turned off or keep it away from anything sports related for the next week.

Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday morning that every indication out of Cleveland points to Manziel starting Sunday against the Bengals.

Maybe this report from Schefter will squelch any rumors the other way and we can just all move on to the Johnny Football Era. We'll see how long Mike Pettine keeps his job after this late-season collapse.

Browns expect to name Johnny Manziel the starter for Sunday.

And there it is. First there's a report Monday morning that the Browns are sticking with Brian Hoyer as their starter and now we're hearing that they are going to turn it over to Manziel. This organization is like a ship lost at sea with no captain, no maps and no rudder. Their chances of making the playoffs are quickly slipping away.

Coach Mike Pettine said he didn't consider shifting from Brian Hoyer to Johnny Manziel on Sunday. Asked whether Manziel simply isn't ready to play, Pettine was evasive. " I did not consider a change during the game," Pettine said."

While the Browns almost won the game the quarterback dilemma continues. Brian Hoyer completed 14-of-31 passes for 140 yards with two interceptions. He struggled to move the offensive efficiently, and Hoyer isn't receiving much love from the Cleveland fan base. They all want the exciting young gun that is Johnny Manziel to be their quarterback. However, the decision is Coach Mike Pettine's, not the fans in the stands.

Browns are expected to name rookie Johnny Manziel as their starting quarterback.

This should surprise nobody as Brian Hoyer has thrown six interceptions to one touchdown over the past three games and was replaced by Manziel who promptly lead the Browns to a score on his first drive. The Browns are 7-5 under Hoyer but Manziel brings a potential upside and explosive play making ability that Hoyer doesn't have as the Browns contend for a playoff spot.

Head coach Mike Pettine expects to make a decision on his starting quarterback by Wednesday.

Pettine and GM Ray Farmer have a tough decision to make, but the head coach has promised to announce his starter by Wednesday. Manziel has the greater upside, and looked good in relief on Sunday. Hoyer is without a passing TD the past two games, and has hurt the team by also tossing five interceptions in Weeks 12 and 13 combined. Stay tuned to developments, as this will complicate fantasy playoffs no matter who starts at quarterback for the Browns.

Johnny Manziel gave the Browns a much-needed spark in their 26-10 loss to the Bills, and coach Mike Pettine is strongly considering benching Brian Hoyer.

It's difficult to say that Manziel actually gave the Browns a spark as he entered the game in the fourth quarter when the Bills had the game well in-hand and took their feet off the gas with regard to coverage and pass-rush. The Browns are competing for a playoff spot and while Hoyer has struggled recently and has just one touchdown to six interceptions over his last four games, Manziel hardly seems like the answer. If the Browns do make a switch, you can probably count them out for a playoff berth.

Johnny Manziel completed 5-of-8 passes for 63 yards and carried the ball two times for 13 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Buffalo on Sunday.

Sunday marked Johnny Football's first appearance in a regular season game and he faired quite well. Manziel replaced Brian Hoyer early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game and may find himself under center when the Browns host Indianapolis next week. At this point, this is really a toss up as the Browns may choose to use the experience Hoyer over the next four games as they push towards the playoffs. On the other hand, Manziel could be the spark plug that Cleveland needs if they truly feel confident about making the playoffs. If Manziel does in fact get the start next week, view him as a low end QB2.
