Coach Mike Pettine indicated Monday that the Browns expect to name their starting quarterback by the team's third preseason game. It's definitely still up in the air," Pettine said.

Let the games begin in Cleveland! The competition officially begins this week between Johnny Manziel and Brian Hoyer. Most of the local beat reporters are convinced that Hoyer will hold off Manziel at least through training camp, but Johnny Football brings the most to the table. The question will be if Manziel can keep his head on straight and wow everyone like he did in college.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine believes that Johnny Manziel's off-field activity will "be a non-story" once training camp starts.

Let the young man get his jollies out of the way in the off-season, I say. So long as he is not arrested or accused of nefarious illegal activity, and is all football once in training camp, then it should be no harm, no foul.

In an interview on Sirius/XM, Browns WR Andrew Hawkins said Johnny Manziel is "all business" on the football field.

Despite all the brouhaha abotu his free living and partying ways this off-season, it would surprise me if he wasn't focused while on the field, working on improving his game at the NFL level. That being said, it is good that the other Browns players are expressing faith in their QB of the future.

Johnny Manziel 'absolutely' expects to be Browns' Week 1 starter.

That's what we like to see, a QB with confidence. I fully expect Manziel to be starting under center at some point this season, but the team may decide to run with Brian Hoyer to start the season. Even if he starts the season, he is a backup fantasy QB at best.

Johnny Manziel and the Cleveland Browns have agreed to terms on a contract.

The Browns have signed their number 22 overall pick, a quarterback out of Texas A&M that I don't know if you've heard of, Johnny Manziel. Apparently he's kind of a big deal. He signs a four year deal that includes a fifth-year club option for 2018. Manziel was seen taking most of the 11-on-11 reps through OTAs and minicamp, but only because the team was being careful with Brian Hoyer coming off his torn ACL. Hoyer will enter training camp as the team's number 1 quarterback but Manziel will have a chance to fight for the job.

With the No. 22 pick in the NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns select Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel.

The Browns go from being chastised by many of their fans for passing on Johnny Football after trading down to the 8th pick only to look like geniuses having landed this ballsy QB 14 picks later. The question is will Manziel carry his swagger to possibly a less than desirable landing spot in Cleveland? His post-pick interview suggests so, and in case you missed my weekly tweets about my love for Manziel's tenacity and swagger I'll sum it up by saying that this kid has the talent and over-the-top type of confidence to do whatever he needs to win and I'm sure all Browns fans can attest that is something this organization needs. The jury is out whether he will pan out, but so long as he can stay healthy it is tough to bet against this kid who now has the All-World Josh Gordon to pass to.

ESPN Senior NFL Insider Chris Mortensen says he'd expect the Browns to snap up QB Johnny Manziel with the No. 4 pick if he's still there.

Obviously Manziel is the big name at the quarterback position this season, but does that make him the right fit for the Browns? That remains to be seen. They've got an amazing receiving option in Josh Gordon, a strong pass-catching tight end in Jordan Cameron and they just brought in Ben Tate to lead the ground attack. The tools are certainly there for anyone who comes in at the position, but coming in as a top pick, he'll be expected to lead the team both on the field and off.

Johnny Manziel will work out for Cleveland Browns officials Saturday.

I have seen a few mock drafts that actually have Cleveland selecting Johnny Football with the #4 overall pick. Brian Hoyer is currently the starting QB for the Browns according to their depth chart so they certainly could use a QB.

Bucs have confirmed the visit on Thursday by QB Johnny Manziel.

Having parted ways with Josh Freeman and in search of a better quarterback than Mike Glennon, the Bucs will kick the tires on Manziel and see whether or not he is worth the trouble to move up in the draft. Manziel is expected to be a top-five pick but the Bucs are picking seventh. The Texans will obviously take Jadeveon Clowney with the top pick and the Rams are the only team who seem to be set at the quarterback position, so a move to third to get Manziel could cost the Bucs a hefty price.
