The Baltimore Ravens are in talks with impending free-agent TE Dennis Pitta but are 'far apart' on a new deal.

Pitta wants to be paid highly, and if the process gets to the point that nothing will be worked out, it could get interesting as Pitta will argue he's a wide receiver while the team will argue he's a tight end. Pitta did run nearly 80 percent of his snaps last season out of the slot, so it would seem like he can make a strong argument that he should be paid like a wide out (the difference is more than $4 million if the franchise tag is applied).

The Ravens' evaluation of whether to use the franchise tag on tight end Dennis Pitta is complicated by the uncertainty of exactly how much it would cost. Would Pitta fall under the franchise tag number for a tight end or a wide receiver, a difference of nearly $5 million.

Newly-hired Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak told reporters at his initial press conference that he expects free agent tight end Dennis Pitta to be "a big part of the offense" in 2014 according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

After a breakout season in 2012, the 28-year old, who will be 29 in June, played in just four games in 2013 (making a single start). As the above suggests, the Ravens have every intention of re-signing Pitta and it would not be a surprise to see him on many "sleeper" lists going into next season's Fantasy Football drafts.

The Baltimore Ravens could consider placing the franchise tag on impending free-agent TE Dennis Pitta if they are not able to reach an agreement with him before the start of free agency.

The Ravens will likely do whatever it takes to ensure they retain Pitta for next season. Pitta could be a tight-end sleeper candidate going into next season as some owners may chose to avoid him after his injury issues this season.

The Ravens will activate TE Dennis Pitta for Sunday's game vs the Vikings.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh says there is a "reasonable" chance that Dennis Pitta plays against the Vikings.

There is also a "reasonable chance" that Tim Tebow gets laid in the next 100 years. It doesn't make it news worthy. Pitta should remain on the free agent wire and only become a waiver wire option for desperate teams that suffer an injury this week and if Pitta actually does something this week.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he is "hopeful" that Dennis Pitta will be able to play on Sunday vs the Vikings.

I am "hopeful" the one day NFL Head Coaches can magically become honest with the media and their fans. The Dennis Pitta song and dance has become tiresome and makes me wonder why we all care so much about Dennis effing Pitta?
