2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Peralta's 2.83 ERA last year gives him his second straight season with a sub-3.00 ERA, though his xERA (4.70), FIP (5.05), and xFIP (4.50) paint a slightly different story. The walk rate jumped last year, which was rather uncharacteristic for Peralta, but one thing that has remained steady is his ability to induce a ground ball. Over the last three seasons, he’s posted a ground ball rate of at least 55 percent in each season. On top of that, his changeup posted a 36.8 percent whiff rate last season, and his slider is another put away pitch he has in his repertoire. Peralta has never recorded more than five saves in a season, but he’s been a quality reliever the past few seasons, who will go to a more pitcher-friendly park than Yankee Stadium. 

2024 Outlook: From a fantasy standpoint, he should get plenty of holds for San Diego, but there’s plenty of competition for saves already with the likes of Robert Suarez, Yuki Matsui, and Woo Suk Go. Peralta is incredibly tough on left-handed hitters, but he's an interesting target in SV+H leagues, as he's been incredibly reliable over the last two seasons, and there's optimism that he could get above a 9.0 K/9 for the first time in his career this year, especially if he leans into his changeup and slider. However, he's a speculative selection for saves at best, but he does figure to pitch in high-leverage situations for San Diego in 2024.
