2023 Recap: Coulombe’s profile might make him better suited than Cano to take over the closer’s role if Kimbrel slumps or is unavailable. The Orioles turned to him in high leverage situations last season and he responded with a 2.81 ERA and 1.110 WHIP. He picked up his first two saves of his career (although both came prior to Bautista’s injury) and he chimed in with 22 Holds. He tied his career high K rate (10.2) and induced soft contact.
2024 Outlook: Coulombe doesn’t have the blazing fastball that we’ve come to expect from elite closers but opposing batters had a .071 BAA his sinker.
