According to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports the Mariners are still pursuing free agents Shin-Soo Choo, Carlos Beltran and Nelson Cruz, among others.

Evidently the Mariners are dumping out their bank accounts this offseason in hopes of finally being a competitive ball club in 2014. Choo would be a very nice get for Seattle and provide Robinson Cano somebody to be on base when he comes to the plate.

Shin-Soo Choo (back spasms) says he feels good, could return to play Saturday. He expects to be ready for Opening Day.

Choo is capable of hitting near .300 with 20-25 homers a year. If he is ready to go, then he should be in the lineup. The possibility he could play Saturday increases his chances of being ready opening day.

Choo will be a very high end option in the OF position this season. There is more of a drop off than people realize on draft day, especially in 5 OF leagues and 12+ teams. Shin-Soo Choo should be targeted in the top 6-7 rounds on draft day in all Mixed League formats and the top 3-4 rounds in NL Only leagues. If he can stay healthy, expect a career year out of the Reds leadoff hitter.
