Royals placed Luke Hochevar (Tommy John) on the 15-day disabled list.

This was obviously always intended but the Royals didn't need to make it official until today. Hochevar having Tommy John surgery was a big blow to what was the second best bullpen in all of baseball last season. Wade Davis was immediately bumped from the rotation to the pen to compensate, but he'll only prove as valuable if he regains his old 2012 form. Hochevar will likely be back next spring to begin workouts, but might not make an actual in-season appearance until midway through 2015.

Luke Hochevar (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday.

Hochevar was fantastic out of the bullpen last year after struggling the seasons before as a starter. He was hoping to get a chance to start once again but that would not happen till 2016 at best.

Luke Hochevar will have Tommy John Surgery. He's out for the 2014 season.

This is good news honestly. Rest is NEVER the answer when it comes to an elbow injury especially in the UCL. Hochevar was once the top overall pick in the 2006 MLB Draft but will now try and rehabilitate his arm and his career as a mid-reliever in 2015.

Luke Hochevar (UCL) will receive a second opinion Thursday in Los Angeles.

Initial reports suggest that a best case scenario would be Hochevar being ready to toss the pelota in late May. There's a very real chance that surgery, of the Tommy John variety, might be needed here. This news couldn't come at a worse time for the former first rounder who finally found his groove as a reliever last year with a 1.92 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 10.49 K/9 mark over 70.1 innings.

Luke Hochevar (sprained UCL) will be shut down for at least two weeks. The team hopes he returns by the end of May.

The Royals and pitcher Luke Hochevar have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $5.21 million.

Smart move by the Royals to not let this one drag out as Hochevar took a major step forward last season with his move to the bullpen. He probably still wants to start at some point or another, but his role in the pen last season became so vital that the team traded away left-handed relief help with upside to help fill holes.

Royals pitching coach Dave Eiland said the team is considering using pitcher Luke Hochevar as a starter.

In other news, the Royals are completely insane. Hochevar has been terrible as a starter, and there is no evidence to suggest he can translate his 2013 success in the bullpen to starting. Out of the bullpen Hochevar is a great sourse of holds with a chance to save games if something happens to Greg Holland. If he starts, Hochevar is nothing more than a late AL-only lottery ticket.
