Yankees activate Brendan Ryan from the disabled list.

Ryan has looked good during his seven rehab games batting a clean .320/.433/.320 and according to all reports he's had no back pain. Since Derek Jeter has had a lack luster season at the plate and in the field this season, I'd expect Ryan to see a decent amount of playing time at shortstop.

Update: Brendan Ryan (back) will likely be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

Once he comes back off the DL, he will spell Derek Jeter at SS. How much he plays will depend on both Jeter's stamina and Ryan's production. As an infielder more known for his glove than his bat, don't get your hopes up too high about him as a middle infielder.

Manager Joe Girardi says Injured Brendan Ryan (back) could rejoin the team shortly, possible for Monday as team heads to Anaheim.

Ryan would fill in as a utility infielder, but how much work he would actually see is not yet known. Considering he has no stick and no speed, we'd have to think he would get work as a defensive replacement, but that's about it. He has no fantasy value.

Brendan Ryan is going on a rehab assignment with the Tampa Yankees starting Sunday. Manager Joe Girardi says he wants Ryan to get 50 at bats before return.

Fifty at-bats probably puts Ryan in rehab for another two weeks, but again, where the Yankees are going to use him is a totally different story. With Kelly Johnson manning third, Brian Roberts at second and Yangervis Solarte as the utility infielder, there just doesn't seem to be room for Ryan or his non-existent bat.

Yankees infielder Brendan Ryan (back) took part in a minor-league game at the team's spring training complex Thursday.

Ryan is still several weeks away from even returning and when he does, there is really no room for him given the way Yangervis Solarte has played. Fantasy-wise, Ryan had almost no value when he was playing full-time, so imagine how low it is a few years older and in a part-time role.

Brendan Ryan had a tight hamstring limiting him to six simulated at-bats Saturday, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.

Brendan Ryan is yet another middle infielder on the Yankees roster. Known more for his glove than anything else it would be interesting to see where he fits in with Solarte, Johnson and now Sizemore being added to the mix.

Brendan Ryan (spine) participated in a simulated game, getting five at-bats on Friday.

Ryann continues to work his way back from a spinal injury, but the real issue is, where does he go when he does make it back? The Yankees have plenty of infield depth right now and every single guy they are using has higher upside than Ryan ever did. He'll probably spend his time as organizational depth at Triple-A.

Brendan Ryan (spine) will likely play in a simulated game Saturday to get his first at-bats since suffering the first of two back injuries that have sidelined him for more than two months.

Fantasy owners know what Ryan is all about and if he was completely unproductive as a starter in Seattle, then think about how useless he'll be in fantasy as a bench player for the Yankees. He's probably not even an upgrade to Dean Anna, at this point, so let's just stop talking about him, shall we?

Brendan Ryan (spine) has been cleared to partake in some light on-field activity.

"Light" is the key word here. Not with regard to Ryan's rehab but to his talent. There's no power and there's no speed. He's a defensive replacement, at best, and there is nothing about his game in which fantasy owners should be interested.

Yankees place INF Brendan Ryan (spine nerve injury) on 15-day DL retroactive to March 22.

Tough news for Ryan. A slick fielder, Ryan isn't much with the bat anyway. Yangervis Solarte should see some more work as the utility infielder for the Yankees.
