DFS MLB Hitting Coach: May 1
Steve Pimental

Braves option RHP Chris Withrow Triple-A Gwinnett.

Withrow has seen limited time out of the bullpen for the Braves as he has appeared in just seven innings over ten games posting a 3.86 ERA. The Braves will option him back down to Triple-A Gwinnett where he will serve as organizational bullpen depth.

Braves select the contract of INF/OF Emilio Bonifacio from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Bonifacio will be a welcome addition to the Braves bench as he could play just about anywhere on the field. He likely will not be an everyday player making him non-existent in the fantasy world, but his super utility role could be a solid piece to this wretched Braves squad.

Manager Brad Ausmus says Cameron Maybin's arm is still not ready to play the outfield.

Maybin has had a myriad of injuries to start the season and the latest one, a sore shoulder is giving him some fits with playing the outfield. He was able to DH Friday night as he went 2-for-3 with a two doubles but has yet to be placed in the field on this rehab assignment. Look for him to continue to strengthen his arm and upon his return in the outfield down in the Minors, it should only be a short time thereafter before he makes his return on the big league roster.

Manager Brad Ausmus said before Saturday's game that catcher James McCann will catch two more games for Triple-A Toledo before coming off his rehab assignment.

McCann has been rehabbing his ankle injury in the minors and it seems like Ausmus wants McCann to be able to catch a full game down there before returning the big league club. With Saltalamacchia doing a fine job behind the plate, the Tigers should be in no rush to get McCann back on the roster so letting him take his time and ensure he is healthy is the right move at this point. It is unclear how the Tigers will utilize McCann upon his return as he could see time as the backup to Saltalamacchia if he continues to hit.

Kyle Seagar went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in the Mariners 6-0 win over the Royals Saturday

Slow and steady wins the race should be Seager's motto to the start the season as he has had some trouble getting things going at the plate but has still been able to put up five home runs and drive in 13 runs. Seager is a stud over at the hot corner and will not likely stay in this slump for very much longer so stick with the 3B even if you have to stash him on your benches until his average is boosted a bit.

Seth Smith went 2-for-5 with a home run, one RBI and one run scored in the Mariners 6-0 win over the Royals Saturday

Smith blasted his fourth home run of the season on Saturday as he continues to give the Mariners another solid lefthanded bat in the middle of the lineup. Smith has shown some pop throughout his career but has seen limited playing time until his time with the Mariners. He has now hit safely in 7 of his last 10 games and is hitting .298 with four home runs and 10 RBI on the year. If you need some help in the outfield on your squads, Smith could be your guy as he is owned in less than 10% of leagues currently. In DFS, Smith could be a sneaky good pick being he has been under the radar with his production in 2016.

Yordano Ventura allowed five runs on three hits with six walks and one strikeout over four innings in the Royal 6-0 loss to the Mariners Saturday

After allowing two runs or fewer through his first four starts on the year, the wheels came off on Ventura Saturday as he allowed five runs lasting just four innings. The fireballer for the Royals looks like the real deal but he still needs to work on his walks as his K:BB ratio is currently at 22:20. This is not a pleasant surprise to fantasy owners but with his potential as a starter, he should still be rostered in all formats. Ventura will make his next appearance Friday against the Indians.

Wade Miley pitched a complete game shutout allowing five hits and striking out four in the Mariners 6-0 win over the Royals Saturday

Miley put in a phenomenal outing on Saturday as he picked up the complete game shutout against the defending champs which is no small task. He was forcing the Royals to put the ball in play as he only struck out four batters and the defense did the rest of the work for the lefty. After a down year in Boston in 2015, Miley is trying to prove he still has something left in the tank. After a few rough outings to start the season, Miley looks to get back on track making his next start Thursday against the Houston Astros.

Chase Utley went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored in the Dodgers 5-2 loss to the Padres Saturday

The Dodgers have used Utley at the top of the order this season and it has paid off for them as he is hitting an outstanding .286 with one home run and seven RBI to this point. The aged Utley is turning the clock back a bit and making things hard on the Dodgers to try and platoon him over at second base with Kendrick. Despite the power numbers not being the same as in the past, Utley is still raking and getting on base with the best of them. If you need some help in the OBP department for your leagues, Utley would be a nice fill gap for that role.

Ross Stripling allowed five runs on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts over 4.2 innings in the Dodgers 5-2 loss to the Padres Saturday

Stripling has progressed poorly since his first start on the season adding earned runs by the start. His latest outing Saturday, saw him give up five runs over 4.2 innings. The young righty for the Dodgers may not be used to the high volume of innings just yet and he could see skipped starts throughout the season. With his high ERA and WHIP elevated at this point in the year and his strikeouts sitting at only 22 through 27 IP, Stripling still needs some time before he will be of any fantasy value. He will make his next start Saturday against the vaunted lineup of the Blue Jays.
