Latest Update David Buchanan improves to 5-5 Fri Jul, 11, 05:20 AM
Is pretty good at throwing strikes repeatedly, and is at his best when inducing plenty of groundball outs. Has good size for a big-league pitcher.
Flaws: : His stuff is not overpowering, even at lower levels, so he has a tendency to get hit harder than he should for the highest level of baseball.
While Buchanan pitched an absolute gem here against the Brewers, he also now finds himself back in Triple-A as the team prepares for the hallowed return of Cliff Lee. With the All Star break coming and the Brewers not needing a fifth starter until the weeks following the break, Buchanan's demotion means the team can have a little more flexibility with the roster and keep a spot ready for when Lee returns to pitch on July 19. Buchanan's 4.40 ERA will not be missed, but he will be on-call for when the Phillies eventual fire sale takes place and they need an emergency starter.Analyst: Howard Bender
Buchanan has made nine starts for the Phillies this year going 4-5 with a 4.82 ERA. With the All-Star break upon us Buchanan can get some additional work at Triple-A.Analyst: Jonathan Impemba
With Cliff Lee set to return to the Phillies starting rotation following the All-Star break, either Buchanan or Hernandez will be sent to the bullpen or demoted. No matter which candidate gets sent packing, neither are worth more than a matchup play at this point in the season so it isn't going to effect their fantasy value too much either way. Analyst: Matthew Beck
Buchanan lost his second straight start after winning his three previous starts in a row and is now 4-5 in nine starts (52.1 IP) with a 4.82 ERA and just 34 strikeouts while walking 16. Things will not get any easier for the young righty as he will be on the road against the Brewers in his next start on Thursday.Analyst: Michael Pichan
