Latest Update Yangervis Solarte with a four-hit night Thu Jul, 31, 02:22 AM
Is a natural hitter with very good bat speed and plate protection. Is also quite versatile in the field, which adds to his overall value at the big-league level.
Flaws: : Needs to find his big-league niche, especially defensively. Doesn't have great power, nor is he much of a speed threat (so his impact on offense is limited).
Solarte has rejuvenated a season that started off great but went into the tank resulting in him being optioned to Triple-A by the Yankees before they traded him to San Diego recently. The Padres are 5-3 since Solarte joined the team back on July 23. In his time with his new club, he is hitting .364 with two home runs, eight runs scored, and eight RBI (at least one in seven of his eight games with SD) making him worth an add in deeper leagues while he is hot.Analyst: Michael Pichan
The home run was Solarte's second in three games and while so many people are focusing on the Chase Headley part of the deal, few have noticed that, since the trade, Solarte is batting .286 (8-for-28) with two home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored. With his multi-position eligibility, he's been quite the find all year and now NL-only league owners get to benefit from his solid play as well.Analyst: Howard Bender
It was a nice way to start things off for Solarte and obviously the hope is that he continues to produce while getting steady playing time at third for them. But just as we saw with the Yankees, a hot start is nothing but short-term help and without sustaining it, his value decreases steadily. A hot start with San Diego would be nice, but he needs to sustain it through the final two months if fantasy owners are going to get more use out of him.Analyst: Howard Bender
With Carlos Beltran landing on the 7-day DL, the Yankees have some flexibility with the roster and will give Solarte another opportunity to turn things around for himself. He started the season hot and looked fantastic through April, but as the months carried on, he slowed down more and more. Perhaps a week of sitting in the bus leagues will motivate him some more.Analyst: Howard Bender
