Latest Update Xander Bogaerts is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Sunday. Sun Jul, 20, 10:48 AM
Is a naturally gifted hitter with tremendous power potential and awesome bat speed. Sprays the ball to all fields. Has a great arm and a very projectable 6-3 frame.
Flaws: : While he's improving his defense at shortstop, he might not have enough glove to play the position in the bigs. Also doesn't boast a lot of base-stealing speed.
Trying to squeeze as many lefties into the lineup as he can, Red Sox manager John Farrell wil go with Stephen Drew at shortstop and Brock Holt at third with Bogaerts on the bench.Analyst: Howard Bender
After batting .135 in June and .146 up to this point in the month of July, it was nice to see Bogaerts do something positive, connecting on his first home run since June 13. He is now sitting on a .236 average with seven home runs and 24 RBI through 331 at-bats, as he continues to struggle in his first full season in Beantown. It is likely that the Red Sox will let him battle through this extended slump, but fantasy owners will want to continue deploying safer alternatives until be completely turns the corner. After showing the Red Sox faithful a glimpse of what could be during the month of May when he hit .327 with a near .900 OPS Xander has been absolutely terrible during the months of June and July watching his average which sat at .304 entering June fall to .235 as the Sox entered the All-Star break. Xander hit just .135 in June with a .176 OBP and some have wondered if his struggles at the plate are contributed to the Sox deciding that he is better off at third base instead of his natural and preferred position of shortstop. Recent reports have been released that the Sox feel that third base will be Xanders permanent major league position given that former first round pick Deven Marrero is near major league ready and a much better defender at shortstop is having a great season at Triple-A this year. Hopefully news that he will not be moved back to SS will allow Xander to get more comfortable with his situation and his talented bat will come back around. Analyst: Jonathan Impemba
Bogaerts batted just .135 for the month of June and is now just 3-for-27 (.111) here in the month of July. He'll stay on the bench again in favor of Brock Holt at the third base Thursday.Analyst: Howard Bender
