Latest Update Manny Machado enjoys three-hit night Fri Aug, 01, 11:55 PM
Has good power and the ability to play a quality shortstop (with a great arm). Can also steal some bases. Is versatile enough to play several infield positions if need be. Is fairly adept at making solid contact.
Flaws: : Struggles at times when he tries to hit home runs too much, so he must be better at using the entire field. Is perhaps too big to play the shortstop position on a regular basis at the big-league level.
Machado has hit safely in four of his last five games with three multi-hit performances. Over that span he is batting .333 (8-for-24) with one home run, five RBI and four runs scored. He's now batting .269 on the year, raising his batting average 26 points over the last month. Analyst: Howard Bender
Not only did Machado hit his 11th home run of the season, but it was of the game-winning variety in the bottom half of the 12th inning. After a sluggish start to the season, Machado has really started to turn things around, now slashing .268/.314/.430 with 27 RBI to add to his long ball total. Up to this point his biggest problem has been against left-handed pitching (.203 BA), but that could certainly be turned around, considering he hit .290 against southpaws heading into the 2014 season.Analyst: Matthew Beck
Machado's lower back tightness came just as he was turning it on in July, going 18-for-45 for a .400 BA. Back problems tend to linger or reoccur, so don't get too comfortable with him at the hot corner just yet.Analyst: Ivar G. Anderson
Machado has missed four games with a back injury, but hopes to be back soon. This likely means that his back is improving, though it is not fully healed yet. If he continues to improve he should be back int he lineup in the next couple of games.Analyst: Ben Diamond
