Latest Update Villar had been optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City Mon Jun, 30, 11:48 PM
Owns excellent defensive instincts for the shortstop position, plus a great arm and plenty of speed. Is also a good base-runner, switch-hitter and pretty good power hitter.
Flaws: : Can be a bit lazy at times in the field, and lacks discipline at the dish (he chases way too many pitches out of the strike zone). Must start making more of his overall ability.
Marwin Gonzalez is likely to see full-time at reps at shortstop for the time being. Gonzalez is hitting a respectable .265/.327/.367 with two homers in 98 PA. He's an AL-only guy for now. Analyst: Spencer Silva
This is just a routine day off for Villar. There's nothing with which to be concerned. Well, unless you think a .205 average is nothing. Yeesh! Marwin Gonzalez will handle the shortstop duties Thursday. Analyst: Howard Bender
Villar has missed the last few games after getting hit by a pitch on the elbow Wednesday. X-rays revealed nothing more than a bruise, so rest and rehab were on the docket. With Villar back, Marwin Gonzalez goes back to the bench.Analyst: Howard Bender
Though he did pinch-run Thursday, this will make the fourth-straight game VIllar has been out of the starting lineup since being hit on the elbow with a pitch Tuesday. The club still doesn't believe he will require a stint on the DL, so continue to view him as day-to-day. Marwin Gonzalez will continue to fill in at shortstop.Analyst: Howard Bender
