Latest Update Yan Gomes drives in lone runs in win ovrer Mariners Thu Jul, 31, 12:18 AM
Displays pretty good home-run power. Is a very good defender behind the dish. A versatile player and batter, he can play all over the field--as well as serve as a regular catcher.
Flaws: : Needs to improve his walk/strikeout ratio in order to maximize his production with the stick in Major League Baseball. In general, he could stand to become a more consistent hitter.
Gomes has stepped up his game of late as he extended his current hitting streak to six games and has five RBI with a home run, a double, and two runs scored over his last three games. He has raised his season average from .273 to .281 over that six game span where he is hitting .346 (9-for-26) over that span.Analyst: Michael Pichan
Gomes has been swinging a hot bat of late as he has at least on hit in each of his last four games and five multi-hit performances over his last 10 to raise his season average from .269 to .281. The improved production at the plate recently is even more impressive considering that seven of his 15 hits over his past 10 games have gone for extra bases, including two home runs to give him 14 on the season. With a day game following a night game, Gomes will take a seat Wednesday and let Roberto Perez do the catching. Gomes should be available off the bench if the Tribe needs him.Analyst: Howard Bender
Gomes has started off the second half of the season on a high-note, with Sunday;s performance being his second multi-hit performance over his last three games. Now sitting on a .273 average with 13 home runs and 37 RBI, Gomes is just one RBI of tying a career-high, while already surpassing last season's home run total on 12 bombs. If he keeps trending in this direction, there is a chance he will reach must-own status, considering he has yet to have less than three home runs in any month up to this point, with four already in July.
