Latest Update Orioles transferred Matt Wieters to the 60-day disabled list. Wed Aug, 13, 03:23 PM
Is an imposing presence (as both a hitter and catcher). Owns a superb batting eye with good power, suggesting he can be an elite switch-hitter. Makes very few mistakes with his glove.
Flaws: : Needs some more work at throwing runners out. Elbow issues don't help. Bats better from the left side than the right, so more improvement is needed there. Could take more walks as a hitter.
Wieters was moved to the 60-day DL to make room for Cord Phelps on the 40 man roster.Analyst: Jonathan Impemba
It's good to hear that Wieters is making progress, but he will still miss the remainder of the season. He should be ready for Opening Day 2015 barring any type of setback.Analyst: David Kerr
The surgery was dubbed a success which means Wieters is done for the rest of the 2014 season but everyone is hopeful to have him back for Opening Day next year. It was a shame to lose him as he was on pace for a career season batting .308 in 26 games. Nick Hundley and Caleb Joseph are filling in at catcher for Baltimore.Analyst: Drew Phelps
Wieters made it through the surgery without issue and now just has the hard part to get through -- the lengthy rehab. He said he was hoping to return by Opening Day next season but, while he's not a pitcher which shortens the rehab process, that still seems to be a little on the optimistic side.Analyst: Howard Bender
