Latest Update Pedro Alvarez has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in fourth metatarsal. Wed Sep, 10, 05:17 PM
Swings the bat with huge power. Has a big, strong frame and quick wrists. Also displays the potential to hit for a good average. Can be an impact player when he gets red-hot.
Flaws: : Is defensively challenged, especially at the hot corner. Will sometimes go on huge strikeout binges, and generally whiffs too often. Has had some minor issues with his conditioning.
And that's a wrap, folks. Alvarez won't play for the rest of the regular season and his spot on any potential playoff roster is obviously in jeopardy as well. He can be dropped in re-draft leagues and those thinking about protecting him for next year are going to be hard-pressed to find a legitimate reason to hold onto him.Analyst: Howard Bender
The Pirates may have to consider shutting Alvarez down given the lack of improvement on the injury font. The timing is terrible given their hunt for a playoff berth, but he was only being used on a part-time basis over the last month. Keep him listed as day-to-day, but if you need the roster spot, you may just be better off cutting him loose.Analyst: Howard Bender
Alvarez hasn't started a game since August 26, though he did try to pinch hit this past Friday. The foot has been an issue recently and while Alvarez' horrible season can't be blamed on it, the fact that he was waking up recently and then immediately shut down does stem from the injury. You can consider him day-to-day still, but we'll wait to hear test results from the foot specialist first.Analyst: Howard Bender
This will make the fifth-straight game that Alvarez has missed with the foot issue. Ike Davis will continue to see the work at first base against right-handed pitchers while Alvarez is out.Analyst: Howard Bender
