Latest Update Pedro Alvarez (left foot) will see doctors Tuesday to determine if/when he can resume baseball activities Fri Sep, 26, 04:23 PM
Swings the bat with huge power. Has a big, strong frame and quick wrists. Also displays the potential to hit for a good average. Can be an impact player when he gets red-hot.
Flaws: : Is defensively challenged, especially at the hot corner. Will sometimes go on huge strikeout binges, and generally whiffs too often. Has had some minor issues with his conditioning.
Alvarez is already out for the season, but the Pirates would like to have him 100 percent healthy headed into the 2015 campaign. He finished the season with a .231 average and 18 home runs.Analyst: David Kerr
Alvarez is dealing with a stress fracture in his foot. On September 10th he was told he would miss about 4-to-6 weeks so it should not be surprising that Alvarez will not be ready for a few more weeks.Analyst: Jonathan Impemba
Alvarez was having a down year even before injuries struck. He is running out of time to play this season, and if you have not dropped him already, now is the time.Analyst: Steve Pimental
And that's a wrap, folks. Alvarez won't play for the rest of the regular season and his spot on any potential playoff roster is obviously in jeopardy as well. He can be dropped in re-draft leagues and those thinking about protecting him for next year are going to be hard-pressed to find a legitimate reason to hold onto him.Analyst: Howard Bender
