Latest Update Gomez logs fourth triple Wednesday Thu Jul, 24, 06:07 AM
Highly athletic, he has great speed and the ability to hit for power. An impressive defensive outfielder, he also boasts a plus arm and the range to cover the ground in center. Makes things happen on offense.
Flaws: : Took a long time before harnessing his impressive physical gifts. Strikes out a bit too much for a top-of-the-order type, lacks plate discipline at times and gets caught stealing a tad too frequently on the bases.
Gomez logged his third multi-hit game since returning from the All-Star break as he continues to put together another great season. Now slashing .304/.369/.505 with 14 home runs, 51 RBI and 18 steals, Gomez remains an elite power/speed combination that is rare to find outside of a few players in the big leagues. Although batting leadoff is not ideal for a player with his power potential, slotting atop the lineup is going to help him stay on pace to reach 30-plus steals for the third season in a row. Gomez survived a collision in the outfield with Ryan Braun and was the only bit of offensive support for Matt Garza and the Brewers on Thursday. His production here in July has been less than stellar as coming into the game he had no home runs and just one RBI, so at least this performance shows he's still awake and can do some damage heading into the weekend. Hopefully, this was also enough for manager Ron Roenicke to keep batting him in the leadoff position where he's always good for that extra at-bat.Analyst: Howard Bender
Possibly a bit more worrisome for Braun owners as he's been in and out with a back issue these last few days. Both players remaining in the game is obviously a positive but we wary of things tightening up as the game progresses.Analyst: Howard Bender
With Ryan Braun out of the lineup, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke is taking the opportunity to mix up his lineup and try and eliminate some of these slumps the Brewers are in. Gomez is back in the leadoff spot where he has already slashed .298/.374/.560 in 168 at-bats this season.Analyst: Howard Bender
