Latest Update Cliff Pennington with rare power display Friday Sat Aug, 16, 05:55 AM
Strong athletically with solid skills, he's fast on the bases and in the field. Shows good instincts, plate patience and decent pop with the bat. Is also a versatile fielder.
Flaws: : Makes a few too many errors as a fielder, which he needs to curb for increased playing time. Also needs to do a better job of staying healthy over the long haul.
Pennington has now hit safely in five of his six games since returning from the disabled list, slashing .360/.467/.600 with three extra-base hits, tow RBI and eight runs scored in that stretch. As long as he remains in the top third of the Diamondbacks lineup he should be a solid producer of runs scored while owning a good on-base percentage since returning from injury.Analyst: Matthew Beck
Pennington made just his third start since returning from the disabled list on Saturday night, but has now logged two multi-hit games in that stretch. He has started in each of the Diamondbacks last three games, which should become a trend down the stretch, but unless he starts to makes something out of his hits there is very little to like bout Pennington moving forward. A corresponding move has yet to be announced, but it looks like Nick Ahmed could find himself headed back to Triple-A. Pennington will return to his reserve role backing up in the middle infield.Analyst: Howard Bender
Pennington has been out of action since suffering a thumb injury on June 1, but is going to be only one step away form returning to the Diamondbacks once his rehab moves along to the Triple-A level. However, once activated it is unlikely he will ever be a fantasy consideration after hitting just .243 with no home runs and six RBI through his first 74 at-bats. Analyst: Matthew Beck
