Latest Update Cameron Maybin is not in the Padres starting lineup on Friday. Fri Jul, 11, 07:31 PM
Highly athletic and rangy, he has the five tools scouts look for: speed, average, power, defense and a strong throwing arm. Can also draw walks.
Flaws: : Is still too much of a free swinger, so he needs to cut down on his strikeouts. Also needs to put some muscle on his wiry frame and develop patience.
This is likely just a day off for Maybin, who has been playing off and on lately. Maybin hasn't exactly been stellar lately either, going four for his last 28, so the lack of playing time is no surprise. Analyst: Ben Diamond
Maybin went 0-4 last night with 2 strikeouts against the Rockies. Will Venable will take his spot in center field for this afternoon's series finale. Maybin is batting .256 this season with only one stolen base in 55 games played. Analyst: Drew Phelps
Like the rest of the Padres offense, Maybin has struggled to be productive in the first half of the season, with Sunday's RBI being just his sixth of the season through 143 at-bats. Unless he picks up the pace as we reach the All-Star break, there is no reason he should be rostered outside of deep NL-only formats. Analyst: Matthew Beck
Maybin's production has been as spotty as his playing time has been. He hasn't been able to consistently produce nor has he been able to stay healthy and in the lineup either. There's plenty to love about him when he's healthy and hitting, but those moments are so infrequent that it's early impossible to rely on him. That 40-stolen base year he had is so far in the past, you just might be able to forget about it altogether.Analyst: Howard Bender
