Latest Update Padres reinstated Cameron Maybin from the restricted list Wed Aug, 20, 06:05 PM
Highly athletic and rangy, he has the five tools scouts look for. His defense is superb (and is his best attribute). Can also draw walks, hit for a little power and steal bases.
Flaws: : Is still too much of a free swinger and needs to cut down on his strikeouts. Also, he hasn't shown enough overall ability and endurance for an everyday player in the bigs.
Maybin is coming back from his 25-game suspension for amphetamine use and the Padres will put him back on the 25-man roster, though he is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game. Chances are he'll go back to playing center field regularly, but how productive he'll actually be is not yet known. He's got a long way to go for fantasy redemption.Analyst: Howard Bender
While the temptation to grab Maybin is always going to be there, don't do it unless you're absolutely desperate. He doesn't hit for a good average, his on-base percentage is always weak and while he's got great SB-potential, only once in his career has he lived up to it. Analyst: Howard Bender
Maybin was suspended last month for violating the league's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment program and is now going to start his five-game rehab assignment before rejoining the Padres. Through 174 at-bats, Maybin is slashing .247/.286/.368 with only one home run, nine RBI and three steals as he continues to struggle the last couple seasons. Analyst: Matthew Beck
Maybin twice tested positive for banned amphetamines and was castigated with a 25-game suspension. He's eligible to return to game action August 20th, and is expected to go on a brief rehab assignment before rejoining the club. He had a .654 OPS before the suspension and isn't a particularly appealing fantasy option. Analyst: Spencer Silva
