Is a good defensive catcher that can also provide gap power at the plate. Displays good plate discipline, a strong arm and leadership qualities. Is a clutch RBI man, too.
Flaws: : Lacks some consistency at the plate and doesn't have ideal home-run power. Also struggles when attempting to throw out base-stealers. Doesn't walk enough.
At 35-years old, the comebacks from surgery get more and more difficult. Considering the sudden depth at the catcher position, he's probably nothing more than a low-end option, at best. Maybe a decent second catcher in a deep, two-catcher league.Analyst: Howard Bender
Ruiz admitted last week that he's been playing with a sore left shoulder all season. He tweaked something while working out during spring training and he said the pain in his shoulder has gotten progressively worse as the season as gone along.
