Latest Update Reds reinstate Skip Schumaker from 7-day concussion list. Sun Jul, 20, 12:20 PM
Is smart and patient at the plate. Can be a singles machine and shows consistency. Scores runs consistently. Can play the outfield but has made a smooth conversion to second base.
Flaws: : Doesn't have a lot of power in his bat. Doesn't make a lot of use of his speed when on base. Struggles against left-handed pitching. Is not as smooth when at the keystone position.
The Reds have been anxiously awaiting the return of Schumaker and will immediately insert him into the lineup at second base Sunday. With Brandon Phillips out for almost the entire rest of season, if the Reds don't actively pursue a replacement, Schumaker will be their starting second baseman the rest of the way.Analyst: Howard Bender
Schumaker will remain on the 7-day concussion DL for the time being as he continues to try and work his way back. He's an intriguing stash right now though as he's expected to play regularly as second base for the Reds in the wake of the Brandon Phillips injury. Monitor his status in the coming days. In the meantime, Ramon Santiago will be at second for the Reds on Friday.Analyst: Howard Bender
Schumaker's injury presumably occurred after he crashed into a wall in the 12th inning of last night's game. The Red's outfielder is eligible to return next Friday. Schumaker's year hasn't been disappointing thus far, posting a poor .240 average along with just one home run and 14 RBI's in 47 games. In a corresponding move, OF Donald Lutz was recalled.
