Latest Update Dustin Pedroia is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Thursday Thu Jul, 24, 09:22 AM
Is a very good contact hitter with solid power, some speed and a great glove. Doesn't strike out much. Has great overall instincts and gets the most out his ability. Hustles constantly.
Flaws: : Can wear down physically over the long haul due to his all-out style. Will have the occasional lapse on the basepaths. Is not a natural athlete.
Pedroia will get the day off in favor of Brock Holt of Thursday, after going 2-for-24 at the plate since the All-Star break. This is certainly not the type of production fantasy owners were expecting to receive from Pedroia in 2014, as he has been one of the most reliable options on a yearly basis. Now batting .269 with just four home runs and 37 RBI, it is going to be hard for him to salvage this lost season even if he is able to turn things around in the near future. Expect him back in the starting lineup on Friday.Analyst: Matthew Beck
Pedroia has played in all but two games for the Red Sox this season and with the Red Sox out of contention, it won't hurt for him to take a day off. Though he is still one of the better options at second base, Pedroia has had a down season in respect to his counting statistics, notching only four home runs and two steals.Analyst: David Kerr
It certainly hasn't been the season fantasy owners expected out of Pedroia in the early going, but he has managed to pick up the pace in the month if July (.387 BA), with Tuesday's performance being his fourth multi-hit game since the turn of the calendar. Now sitting on a .282 average with four home runs and 33 RBI through 358 at-bats, the Red Sox second baseman will need to keep up his recent pace if he wants to salvage what is left of this miserable season in Boston. Pedroia has been on fire of late, going 12-for-24 with five RBI and three runs scored over his last six games. Now sitting on a .282 average with four home runs and 32 RBI, the Red Sox second baseman is slowing starting to produce more like the player fantasy owners drafted, but is still on pace to have one of worst seasons of his career after a slow start.
