Latest Update Orioles extend Hardy? Thu Oct, 09, 12:58 PM
An intense player, he has good power and run-producing qualities from the shortstop position. In the field, he boasts a very strong arm and sound instincts for the position.
Flaws: : Strikes out too much and is also prone to nasty hitting slumps that hurt his overall value at the dish. Is also somewhat injury-prone. Isn't much of a base-stealer.
An interesting move and one that could possibly come back to bite them in the ass. Hardy finished the regular season with a .268 average, nine home runs and 52 RBI but spent much of the year out of the lineup due to continuous back problems. At 32-years old, he's not getting any younger and his back certainly isn't getting any better. A risky move for the O's if this extension happens.Analyst: Howard Bender
Hardy's power was down this season, but he still had a solid year even though he faded down the stretch. Regardless, he had a nice game on Thursday and could be in line for a nice hot streak at exactly the right time.Analyst: David Kerr
Just a night off for the Orioles' starting shortstop. Ryan Flaherty will take over and bat eighth on Friday night.Analyst: David Kerr
Baby steps, J.J., baby steps. With the Orioles looking like they are playoff bound this year, there's no reason to push Hardy too much and have him out there for both ends of the doubleheader. The team will continue to be cautious with him so they don't have to sit there with Ryan Flaherty at shortstop for their first playoff series.Analyst: Howard Bender
