Latest Update Matt Kemp deal set but not official Thu Dec, 11, 08:24 PM
A great athlete: has speed, excellent bat speed, a great glove, solid throwing arm and superb batting eye. Produces both as a run-scoring threat and an RBI guy while playing top-tier defense.
Flaws: : Strikes out far too much and can be guilty of being way too aggressive at the dish from time to time. Has had some injury problems in the past that have hindered his overall production over the years.
This is the same deal that has been rumored all day. The Padres will gain the middle of the order bat that they have lacked since Adrian Gonzalez was traded to Boston while the Dodgers address the hole they have at the catcher position in Yasmani Grandal.Analyst: Jonathan Impemba
There have been plenty of rumors surrounding this deal with the principal player coming back to the Dodgers being catcher Yasmani Grandal but rumors are just that making it all speculation until a deal is actually announced. Analyst: Jonathan Impemba
No specifics given as to what defines "awhile back" so who knows when the swap was first considered. In the meantime, the Dodgers are trying to work on a middle infield consisting of Dee Gordon and Alex Guerrero. We still think Kemp to the Orioles or even the Rangers makes the most sense.Analyst: Howard Bender
The deal is getting really close to being done. The Dodgers really want the Padres' catcher Yasmani Grandal, but they are looking for another big piece to go along with him. Ken Rosenthal reports that they could be targeting pitching prospect Matt Wisler. Kemp has also been linked to the Mariners, Rangers, and Orioles, but no team is more desperate for offense than San Diego.Analyst: Drew Phelps
