Latest Update Marlins exercise 2015 Club Option on Jeff Mathis Sat Nov, 01, 03:45 PM
A good athlete for a catcher, he throws well and calls a very good game behind the dish. Leads by example. Is definitely future manager material.
Flaws: : Has too many holes in his swing, leading to streakiness at the plate as well as too many strikeouts. Lacks patience, too, so he's not an everyday catcher.
Mathis provides a strong defensive presence as the back up catcher for the Marlins. With his return, expect prospect J.T. Realmuto to start the season in the minors, fine tuning his game.Analyst: Ivar G. Anderson
Mathis has never been known for his bat but for $1.5 million you can't do much worse for a back up catcher.Analyst: Jonathan Impemba
Although Mathis finished with a monster game on Wednesday night, his lack of at-bats (26 AB) will keep him from gaining any real fantasy value. Unless Jarrod Saltalamacchia was to suffer an injury, there is no reason the Marlins backup catcher should be on anyone's fantasy radar. Analyst: Matthew Beck
