Latest Update Mauer collects two hits and four RBI in Twins loss Tue Sep, 16, 12:38 AM
He's the whole package as a hitter: an elite contact hitter with great bat control, occasional home-run power and a doubles machine. Also takes a number of walks and can be a top-tier run producer.
Flaws: : Concussion issues forced him to end his stint at catcher prematurely, which slightly lessens his overall value. At times, he could stand to be more aggressive at the plate. His home-run power lacks consistency.
Mauer had the game-breaking hit against Max Scherzer during Monday's loss, lacing a single up the middle with two runners on base in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera finished the Twins off in the ninth with solo home runs. Mauer has looked like his old self since returning from the disabled list. Mauer is just getting the second game off, especially after going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the first game. Kennys Vargas will handle the work at first base.Analyst: Howard Bender
While Mauer has been playing with a sore shoulder, he continues to hit the ball. Mauer will continue to be slotted in the DH spot until his achy left shoulder feels better. Mauer has been a great fantasy play since coming off the DL and should continue to be started as long as he is in the lineup. His positional flexibility allows you to slot him at either catcher or first base, just a bonus to a good fantasy option.Analyst: Colby Conway
Mauer, who is slashing .288/.391/.475 with a pair of homers since coming off the DL, has played in 16-straight games, so this is just a routine day off for him. Chris Parmelee will handle the work at first base for Thursday.Analyst: Howard Bender
