Is a quality switch-hitter and Gold Glove-caliber first baseman. Boasts the ability to hit for both power and contact when he's at his best. Also knows how to take a walk.
Flaws: : Injuries have started to creep into the picture here, as he appears to be in decline. Can be a streaky hitter. Like most switch-hitters, has more power from one side (left).

That could explain why he has gone 0-for-11 in three games since the All-Star break. The Yankees are hopeful that he can recover quickly so they don't have to put him on the disabled list. Kelly Johnson is starting tonight's game at first base and will see a majority of the playing with Teixeira out.Analyst: Mark Kaplan
On top of going 0-for-12 during the first three games of the second half, Teixeira will quietly take a seat Monday against the Rangers due to a mild lat strain. He'll be out for the next three or four days according to reports, so look for Kelly Johnson to get some regular work at first base this week.Analyst: Howard Bender
Although Teixiera is certainly not the player he once was, he has been able to be a solid contributor in the power categories while staying somewhat healthy in 2014. He now sits with 17 home runs and 47 RBI through 249 at-bats as he remains on pace to get back to the 30 home run club for the first time in three seasons. That is, as long as he can stay off the trainer's table in the second half. Analyst: Matthew Beck
