Latest Update Yankees unconditionally released Brian Roberts Sat Aug, 09, 11:57 AM
A quality switch-hitter and superb base runner, he was also a good contact hitter with solid pop in his bat. Did an excellent job of both getting on base and driving runs in from the keystone position.
Flaws: : Back and concussion issues were a big concern late in his career. Struck out too much for a table-setter. Despite being a switch-hitter, he had less power batting from the right side. His glove declined with age.
And the Brian Roberts experiment is officially over. He was DFA'd last week to make room for Stephen Drew and he was expected to refuse the assignment. Now released by the Yankees, he is free to sign with another team, though it's doubtful anyone is too interested in a .237 average with limited power and speed.Analyst: Howard Bender
After batting .237 with five home runs and seven stolen bases, Roberts' time with the Yankees has come to an end. Stephen Drew will take over at second base full time and Roberts, if he clears waivers, will be asked to report to Triple-A Scranton.Analyst: Howard Bender
Just a regular day of rest for Roberts who has started 11 of the last 12 games . Brendan Ryan will work at the keystone on Sunday in his stead.Analyst: Howard Bender
