Latest Update Brian Roberts hits fifth home run Sat Jul, 12, 05:30 AM
A quality switch-hitter and superb base runner, he's also a good contact hitter with solid pop in his bat. Does an excellent job of both getting on base and driving runs in from the keystone position.
Flaws: : Back and concussion issues are now a big concern. Strikes out too much for a table-setter. Despite being a switch-hitter, he has much less power batting from the right side. His glove has declined with age.
Roberts' overall production hasn't exactly been stellar but given his injury history and statistical track record, he's probably right where most people expected him to be. While he's 12-for-35 (.343) over his last eight games, he's provided just the one home run along with just three RBI and five runs scored. It's not terrible, but it's not great. AL-only and extremely deep mixed leagues may afford him an opportunity in fantasy leagues, but that;s probably about it.Analyst: Howard Bender
Roberts extended his current hit streak to five games where he is hitting .454 (10-for-22) with a triple, five doubles, two RBI, four runs scored, and no strikeouts over that span. Pick him up while he is hot if you need some middle infield help.Analyst: Michael Pichan
Looks like someone spent the Fourth of July amped up on 1.21 jigawatts. Had to be, right? Roberts must've pulled into the ballpark players lot in his Delorean, having gunned it to 88 mph, and landed back in 2005. That's really the only way to explain four extra-base hits in one game for the 36-year-old with the perennial aching back. It was his second multi-hit game in a row and third in his last four games, but before you go declaring that someone found the Fountain of Youth, keep in mind that he's still batting just .248 on the year and that number is going to get lower quicker than it's going to get higher.Analyst: Howard Bender
Bye-Bye Brian sent the ball good bye for just the fourth time this season, but for the second time in his last six games. He is still battling with bouts of inconsistencies, but does look as if he may be turning the corner some as he also has three stolen bases over his last 10 games to give him seven on the season. If you are desperate for some middle infield help Roberts may be of some use, but I caution you that four of the Yankees next six games will be on the road in spacious Target Field putting a limit on his power potential.Analyst: Michael Pichan
