Lorenzo Cain Headshot

Lorenzo Cain was running on Sunday and his rehab assignment could start any day.

Royals manager Ned Yost said that Cain is getting closer and closer to his rehab assignment and that Cain should be considered "day to day", whatever that means. Cain has been out since June 28th with a hamstring injury and has felt good since he started running so he might not require a very long rehab stint before rejoining the Royals. After a disappointing month of April, Cain was hitting .319 with six home runs and 31 RBIs in May and June before going down with his hamstring injury.

Jason Castro Headshot

Jason Castro is not in the Astros lineup on Sunday.

Castro missed last night's game with a right-hand contusion and will be on the bench again today when the Astros take on Tim Lincecum and the Angels. Castro hurt his hand on a foul tip back in Friday night's game. The 2013 All-Star has been incredibly underwhelming for Houston this season, hitting just .222 with six home runs, 23 runs batted in, and an OPS of .729. Evan Gattis will be starting behind the plate and hitting sixth for the Astros today.

Arismendy Alcantara Headshot

Athletics optioned Arismendy Alcantara to Triple-A Nashville.

Alcantara was optioned to Triple-A Nashville in order to make room for Jesse Hahn, who is starting today in place of Rich Hill who is sidelined with a blister. The 24-year-old Alcantara played in five games for the Athletics and amassed just 13 plate appearances. He should be back with the big league club at some point in the near future, but won't carry any real fantasy value unless he starts seeing regular at-bats for the Athletics.

Jesse Hahn Headshot

Athletics recalled Jesse Hahn from Triple-A Nashville.

Hahn has been recalled from Triple-A Nashville and as a result, Arismendy Alcantara will be heading down to Triple-A. Hahn started seven games for the Athletics earlier in 2016, going 2-4 with a 6.49 ERA. He'll be making a spot start for Oakland today when they face off against the Rays at home. I would stay away from Hahn today in all fantasy purposes as he hasn't shown the ability to pitch well on a consistent basis at the big league level, as evidenced by his 1.76 WHIP on the year.

Joe Panik Headshot

Joe Panik (concussion) is feeling much better than he was a few days ago.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that he believed that Panik had "turned a corner" with his recovery and has been feeling much better as of late. Panik had suffered a setback recently with his concussion symptoms, but it appears as though he's recovered well and is back on track. He's going to have a couple of more days off and then could head out on a rehab assignment in the near future. The 25-year-old was hitting .256 with seven home runs and 36 RBIs before going down with a concussion back on June 27th.

J.J. Hardy Headshot

J.J. Hardy is not in the Orioles lineup on Sunday.

The 33-year-old shortstop will get a well-earned day off on Sunday after posting multi-hit games in each of his last four starts for Baltimore. Hardy has been productive since coming back from a fractured foot earlier this season as he's hit .280 with four home runs and 22 RBIs in 50 games. Ryan Flaherty will start at shortstop today for the Orioles and is hitting seventh against right-hander Corey Kluber. Flaherty is 5-for-11 lifetime against Kluber with three runs batted in.

Salvador Perez Headshot

Salvador Perez is not in the Royals lineup on Sunday.

Perez, who has played every game since the All-Star break, will get a much needed day off today as the Royals face off against right-hander A.J. Griffin. The 26-year-old backstop has struggled in the month of July for the Royals, hitting just .203 with two home runs and six runs batted in. Drew Butera will handle the catching duties today and is hitting eighth for Kansas City against Griffin.

Lucas Giolito Headshot

Nationals recalled Lucas Giolito from Triple-A Syracuse.

Giolito has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in order to start for the Nationals today when they square off against the Padres at home. Giolito has made two big league starts already this season, allowing four earned runs in seven and two-thirds innings pitched. He'll pitch to a San Diego team that has OPSed just .670 this season against right-handed pitching, which is second to last in the league. Giolito could be a good cheap option for daily purposes if he's able to go more than just a handful of innings today.

Matt Wieters Headshot

Matt Wieters remains out of the Orioles lineup on Sunday.

Wieters has been out since Saturday with a bruised foot and will miss his sixth straight game when the Orioles square off against the Indians. Wieters is having a mediocre year for Baltimore in 2016, hitting just .250 with nine homers, 38 runs batted in, and a .709 OPS. Caleb Joseph will be behind the plate for the Orioles today and is hitting eighth against the Indians pitcher Corey Kluber.
