A.J. Burnett allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with two walks and four strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings in a loss against the Reds on Thursday.

Burnett’s spectacular first half that garnered his first career All-Star game is officially in the past. Burnett pitched himself into a third-straight bad outing Thursday night. In his three starts since the break, he has now allowed 19 runs on 32 hits over 16 innings. Burnett himself even admits that everyone, including fantasy owners, should temper their expectations of him. “If you expect me to go out and do what I did in the first half, you’re nuts,” Burnett told ESPN. Point taken, A.J. He will look to bounce back at PNC Park in his next start on Tuesday against the Cubs. Analysis: Zack Carpenter
