Chris Stewart Headshot

Stewart was scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League lineup with left groin discomfort, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Stewart has already missed a good portion of spring games while recovering from knee surgery, so hopefully this isn't anything too serious. The veteran catcher is slashing just .231/.333/.308 through six games as he prepares for a backup role behind Francisco Cervelli. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Jason Spezza Headshot

Spezza (back) is doubtful for Friday's game against the Sharks, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.

Spezza, who missed his second straight game Thursday due to back spasms, will thus take aim at a possible return to action Sunday against New Jersey. The veteran pivot has logged 12 goals and 42 points, to go along with a minus-18 rating in 59 games to date.

Archie Goodwin Headshot

Goodwin is expected to sign a second 10-day contract with the Nets on Saturday, Chris B. Haynes of ESPN.com reports.

Goodwin's initial pact is due to expire after Friday's game against the Wizards, but the 22-year-old has shown the Nets enough over his week and a half with the team to warrant another deal. Despite seeing only 13.3 minutes per game over three appearances, Goodwin is filling the stat sheet with marks of 8.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists, while shooting 58.8 percent from the field. The 22-year-old's talent has never been in question, and if he can display more consistent shooting over the second 10-day deal, he could be signed through the remainder of the season.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic Headshot

Vlasic, who missed Tuesday's game with the flu, practiced Thursday, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

In the wake of Vlasic's return to practice Thursday, he's projected to suit up Friday against the Stars. In 67 games to date, the 29-year-old blueliner has logged five goals and 22 points to go along with 35 PIM.
3:54 pm (EST)
Yasiel Puig Headshot

Puig was scratched from Friday's Cactus League lineup because he is doing "extra work on the side," Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Puig had also been scratched earlier in the week because of calf soreness, but it appears this is unrelated. The right-hander is hitting .250 with three home runs and seven RBI this spring as he prepares for his fifth season with the Dodgers. Chris Segedin took his place in the outfield.
3:54 pm (EST)
Stephen Cardullo Headshot

Cardullo is 14-for-45 (.311) with three home runs and 13 RBI in 23 Cactus League games.

Cardullo is in the thick of the race to garner an Opening Day roster spot left vacant following the injury to Ian Desmond (hand). He's making a strong case to fill that void, especially showing off his power by hammering two grand slams this spring. Prospect Jordan Patterson is also enjoying a strong spring performance, and Christhian Adames and Pat Valaika are both working out at first base to attempt to grab the spot for their own. However, Cardullo's torrid spring could lead the Rockies to give him a chance, especially since some of the other candidates have minor league options remaining, a luxury they don't have with the non-roster invitee Cardullo.
3:51 pm (EST)
Shelvin Mack Headshot

Mack (ankle) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Clippers, Andy Larsen of KSL.com reports.

The Jazz have been ruling Mack out well in advance of their last several games, so his upgrade to questionable ahead of Saturday's contest suggests that a return to action could soon be in store. Even once that happens, however, Mack will likely find himself on the outside of the rotation as the third- or fourth-string point guard.
3:48 pm (EST)
David Hernandez Headshot

Hernandez was released by the Giants on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area Sports reports.

Hernandez had requested the move after being informed he would not make the Opening Day roster. The 31-year-old was attempting to earn a bullpen spot after appearing in 70 games for Philadelphia last season, but posted a 4.76 ERA over six Cactus League games this spring. He'll look to latch on to a roster elsewhere.
3:47 pm (EST)
Derrick Favors Headshot

Favors (knee) won't play Saturday against the Clippers, Andy Larsen of KSL.com reports.

Favors was able to put up some jump shots on the side during Friday's practice, but since he's still not taking contact, the Jazz won't clear him for game action. The power forward's season has been besieged by recurring left knee issues, and the bone contusion he's currently dealing with could very well threaten his availability for the next several games. Favors' ongoing absence has allowed Joe Johnson and Joe Ingles to pick up some extra minutes with coach Quin Snyder deploying more small-ball lineups.
3:45 pm (EST)
Tuukka Rask Headshot

After starting three games in four days, Rask was given a maintenance day by the Bruins on Friday, CSN's Joe Haggerty reports.

While coach Bruce Cassidy declined to name his starting goalie for Saturday's road game against the Islanders, Rask is fully expected to draw the assignment for the B's, who have dropped four straight decisions. Rask has logged a subpar 3-6-0 record in March, but with the Bruins clawing to make the playoffs, their franchise goalie figures to be busy over the team's last eight regular season games.
